The video shows a gun show purchase EG with a jeweled bolt. I thought those only came on F models. Did Savage ever ship EGs with that bolt?

Its hard telling in the video but if the left side of the front receiver ring is roll stamped then the jeweling would be consistent with the factory finish. Maybe David knows how many EGs, if any, were jeweled before Savage started drilling their receivers.

I don't know that info. I wish I did I could include it in the EG article I started a few months ago. David

Some EG's showed up earlier with factory d&t receivers, and lots of 99R's - and none of those had jewelled bolts until the 99F's came out. I think some of the early 99F's didn't have jewelled bolts either.. ??

The EG's in 800,000 were made earlier than the EG's in 700,000 (well.. mostly) - so no jeweled bolt is expected.
Thanks, Don. Looks like I might have been wrong about some early F's not being jeweled.

Rory, I know the "F's started around S/N 755,000 but i have no idea how many were made in that range between 755000-759000, with ,both R,s and EG's ,and F's all made at the same time. Don
I think the demisined bolt started in the 72xxxx range. Don't know when it was dropped...maybe 1960? The 1960 E's are not and the 800,000 series is not.

That sounds like an interesting story
Callahan gave us a rundown of the ones recorded in the ledger. Most date to 1952/1953, with a few from 1954. Nothing extra recorded, nothing unusual seen on the ones that have been found. I think it was 500'ish recorded in the ledgers.

There was a question in a thread here some time ago about whether my EG serial number 7277xx had a damascened bolt. It is damascened and it is one of those early EG's that is factory D&T'd. It also has an F lever boss code. I got the stands up in my new vault yesterday and transferred the guns yesterday and today. I found the EG in the back of the old mega-sized safe. Sorry about the delay. Now I can access my 99's quickly when a question comes up. David

I have few R's in this range. I think most of my info came from hunting D&T'ed EG's. So now the question of whether only the EG had damascened bolts in this range and if so then when did the R's start.

Well.. one does have to keep an open mind on whether a specific bolt was damascened at the factory or after. One of those things that can be done by bubba.
