Help! I am going elk hunting in 30 d and my 338 RCM guide gun is not working. The main screw to the floor plate keeps coming loose and accuracy has gone down the toilet. I have torqued it up twice to factory spec and applied lock tite red, but it won't hold. I sent the rifle to Ruger. Does anyone have a similar experience?
Thanks,
Doc Paul

Some of the Rugers front screw,s had a dimple or detent in them to help them hold. I glass bed all my Hawkeye or 77 style Rugers and front action screw stays tight. One of the issues with that front angled screw!!! Big action mortise and front screw has to remain tight, or it will act as a slide hammer and break stock.

KK,
I noticed a flat area on the screw and wondered what that was about. I did not really inspect the stock for damage though. Well, hopefully the guys at Ruger can fix it and get it back in time for the hunt. I spent a lot of time and powder making that rifle shoot well. My hand loads consist of a 210 gr Barnes TSX riding on 60.5 gr of H414 and would shoot 3/4 MOA. I was really upset when I sent it to NH yesterday! Fortunately, I have my 7mm and 4 boxes of the old Nitrex ammo as back up.

Well Doc what did Ruger have to say? Regardless I would bed stock when it comes back to keep lug tight.

I haven't heard a peep from Ruger. I will look into bedding the stock, assuming the rifle is salvageable.
