Have had a 60s vintage Savage 24 DL in .22 Magnum/20ga for about 18 years. The front sight had been a small brass bead at one time but was broken off. I had also found a Williams clamp-on peepsight that clamped right to the 3/8" rail but the sight was way too short.
A couple of weeks ago I brought the gun to an old timey gunsmith who has been in business since the 1970s... I asked if the sight could be replaced with something with a dovertail so a blade of the correct height could be made... The Smith went over to a 3x5 card cabinet and pulled out one of the drawers...it had about a hundred of the Williams Model 64 white beaded blades in both 1/16" and 1/8" bead sizes and all four heights... .160-.191-.222-.253 He didn't have any brass beads. I asked where he got them and the Smith said he bought most of inventory of an old Smith who retired back 25 years ago...
So if you have a Savage 24 that that has a front base with a small screw that attaches the sight blade to it he has some...

You just made my world a better place. Mine had the sight on a barrel band but regulation was way off so I took the barrel band off and did some work on regulating it. The barrels now are too close together for the band and I was looking for a sight with the bead that screwed to the barrel. Thanks.
