I was there once years back, but didn't fish.
I did see a few sport fishing boats while traveling about, so no doubt they do fish there.
But I will also say that it was the windiest place ive ever been, to the point it wasent pleasant to even be on the beach.
Otherwise very nice place, and a good place to buy your wife some nice jewelry reasonably. lol

My cousin has two condo's there and goes down several times a year. They always catch some Mahi. I think the big thing with him is, you only have to be off the island about 100 feet and you are in deep water (Joking). He has a lot of fun. I know he has caught Sailfish too. One of my friends is a fanatic Tuna fisherman and we run out 35-100 miles, here in the mid Atlantic area, and catch more and bigger fish. The local fishing fleet down there may cater to the tourist, run out 15 minutes, fish 3-4 hours, take some fun photos, bring back some Mahi, happy tourist. If you found out who to ask on the docks, you may be able to get a better trip. Plus, I think the price is right and there is nothing wrong with catching Mahi.

Well in fairness, the long runs are actually a requirement in much of the mid Atlantic area in order to get to deep enough water to attract the tuna. Rule of thumb is 30 fathoms, and that makes it a long run. Even in the Keys you can be in that depth water within about 10 miles, so the long runs aren't necessary making 4 hr. trips a good option for tourists.
Put a decent size Mahi of say 20# on the end of the line and lots of the he man anglers will be ready for a break when its over also. lol

Yep, nothing wrong with Mahi. We did a Tuna tournament a few months ago and only got two small Yellowfin and two small Mahi. I put a cast iron skillet on the grill and run it up to 600*. Roll the fillets in Olive oil, or Sesame oil, a little Sea Salt and fresh ground black pepper. Slap them on the hot skillet for just a minute or two per side. With the small fillets I like to use them as finger food as people walk past the grill. If you put them on the plate for 5 minutes or more they keep cooking from the residual heat and dry out. So, get them quick.

One of the restaurants downtoen has their own sportfisherman amd it is damned cheap to fish on one of their charters. Wahoo, sails, big snapper aren't uncommon.
On the.flats and around mangroves and docks, there are snook and bonefish.
