I've got one I bought in 1981, at Mills Fleet and Farm in MN, for the over priced sticker of $219.00...

have no intention of letting it go....

I sure wish they'd reinstate the .338 Express while they're at it...

I disagree. I have a 2017 Model 336 in .30-30 and the lifter spring is already kaput, less than 150 rounds through it. Wood to metal fit sucks, and the wood appears to be birch.

i wish they made that one in an 18" barrel. they need to partner with davidsons again for some the the limited run specials. i have several of the davidson guns and they are sweet.

one of these days if i find a 444P and an 1895M for reasonable prices i am going to pick them up to go with my 1895G. i need to sell a few safe queens first. but i been saying that for years...

and the CBS never bothered me. i prefer it actually.

Thanks, I can do it too. But why should I have to fix a new gun?

Jim go get one! Take it from a broken down & some what old fart, " You ain't gettin' any younger and they ain't gettin' any cheaper". A used .444 will be cheaper and proballay better quality than a new one if & when they appear.

Now that's funny! Haven't been pricing used 444's for awhile have you?

Except 336's don't have a lifter spring. The lifter is cammed upward by the lever.

occasionally I'll do work on a levergun if someone comes up with an interesting idea.

[Linked Image]

the last remlin I took the barrel off of had a receiver that looked like this.

[Linked Image]

even after making the reciever threads and tenon diameter larger, and facing the receiver to the extent I thought was safe, this is what we ended up with.

if this is a typical remlin effort you'd be better served getting something else.

Remlins are junk, its so obvious. Quality has gone down the drain in the last 10-20 years as manufacturers are bought out and the new owners look at nothing but profits and cutting costs. Roll the dice with a new Remlin, you may get a good one, maybe not. Why take the chance? A quick look just now on GB found 3 used Marlin era .444s in the $600 range.

And like 3584ELK says, why should he have to fix a new gun? This is true of Rugers too, many of them need to be sent back to the factory to be made correct, just read the Ruger forum for proof. I love Rugers, owning probably 40 of them, but they're all OLDER ones, that is the KEY!

Rant off. Good luck everyone with your choices.

I was in Cabala's today and cruised through the gun library. Found a used 336 Remlin. I grabbed it and looked down the sights. Sure enough, the front sight is cocked off to the left. I've looked at probably a dozen, new and used, over the last few years and the vast majority had a canted front sight. Just had to shake my head. A few years ago, I was in Sportsman's Warehouse. They had a nice Stainless 45-70. I asked the guy if I could look at it. He grabbed it, cycled the lever to open the action and gave it to me. I tried to close the action and it was jammed. I chuckled and gave it back to him and it took him several minutes to get it closed again. He asked if I wanted to look at it some more and I declined. He put it back on the rack. I asked him if he was going to sell it like that and he just shrugged and walked away. The front sight was canted on that one also. Not saying there aren't some good ones, but I've yet to find one. I would NEVER buy one sight unseen. Actually, I would have to go out and shoot a box though it first. Sad story...

Don't talk like that. I need this. wink

I'm thinking I need one too.

Heck, why not visit Gunbroker and buy one now? A USED ORIGINAL Marlin, of course. Them older ones HAVE to be better than the new Remlins, since so many folks beetch about them! wink

The 1 in 20 twist is the reason why. The old ones had a 1 in 38 twist IIRC. The 444 needs heavy boolits best used with the faster twist
