I just had a chance to buy a Super Lite Tikka in either 300 WM or 308 Win. and opted for the latter, precisely because I didn't want to get beaten by the former. It shoots 168 gr. Barnes into the same hole @ 100 yds, and with the right conditions I'd have no hesitation touching it off at an elk at up to 400 yards. That is enough elk gun for me!

Yeah, that works. You could even drop down in weight on the Barnes and still do just fine.

I don't think it is just the weight
At one time I had a 260 T3 and a custom Rem in 260AI that both weighed about the same, and even though I was running hotter loads in the Ackley the Tikka bucked more.

For the guys with the 300wm Tikka-- does the 1-11 twist affect anything for you? What loads or factory ammo are you using? I'm considering a 300wm and probably the 180 TTSX but want to make sure it has no stability issues.

According to Barnes, that bullet as well as the 175 LRX should be fine with the 11" twist. I shot the 175 LRX in my Tikka LH 300 mag. with no issues. Barnes shows the length of the 180 as slightly longer, but the BC of the 175 is higher.
