For those that are using 4064 what's the max load for 140gr Accubonds? What has been your most accurate load using IMR4064?

I shot my rifle today with 4064 and I got decent enough groups to hunt with but not to happy with it. I tried 3 different loads and I may just have to go buy some Varget.

Accurate load for 139-140 with 4064 is 43.5gr.

I was just going to post this but for the 120. IMR 4064 shot better then R15, at least for the first loading.

My most accurate load with 140 gr Accubonds is 48.0 gr W-760, WLRM primers, 2.790" COL. Consistently less than MOA, and well over 2900 fps in a 24" barrel with that load.

I have had good results with 41.0 grains IMR 4064 and the 139 Hornady SP.

42 grains of IMR 4064 shoots extremely well with 139 SP, 140 Sierra Game Kings, and 140 grain Nosler Partitions. I love this powder for my 7mm-08.

I load 42 gr. of IMR 4064 over 140 BT for my buddies 7mm-08 and get sub inch groups all day.

I say, go buy some Varget. I have a 7mm/08 handgun that gets 1 to 1.5 MOA groups with Varget and Hornady 139 gr. BTSP Interlocks. I also tried Nosler Accubonds and didn't get as good accuracy with them so maybe it's the bullets and not the powder.

I'm gonna try 42 and 42.5grs before I try a different powder. I tried 40.5,41,and 41.5grs yesterday and the best group by far was the 41.5gr so maybe bumping it up a lil will tighten it up more.

I second that. My savage axis likes that load with bullets seated to 2.81" oal 4064 works well in my 22-250, and 243 as well, i will always keep imr 4350 around for the 30/06 but it just doesn't seem to perform well in 308 case sized rounds.

While I don't have a 7-08 I have used IMR 4064 in .257 Roberts, .30-06 and .35 Whelen, in my experience it has given me better accuracy than Varget and RL-15. But who knows every rifle is an individual, might as well try Varget and RL-15 as they are good choices. I always thought of IMR 4350 as the powder that I used in my .338 WM but I have gotten good results with it in .257 Roberts, .30-06 and .35 Whelen.

41 grains of 4064 has been my most accurate load just about forever, using a 140 grain BT or AB. My little 7/08 shoots absolute screamer groups with that load and have great results with deer.

I doubt Varget will beat that load in any rifle, but you never know. I’ve never, not in a single rifle of mine, had Varget meet or beat that rifle’s preferred load.

While those that know me on the campfire, kinda laugh that I use so much 4064, IMR 4895 and 3031 in about everything I load.. they find it funny, with all of the newer powders on the market that are always suppose to be so much better in so many different ways....

sure, you can get 100 to 150 fps muzzle velocity out of other powders

but for accuracy, efficiency and consistency, I find few powders that those three old IMR powders..
and its never across the board... other powders might be better in one application or another...

but I still maintain, with few exceptions, 4064, 4895 and 3031 are the most versatile powders around..

even enjoyed reading the thread on John Barsness article on the M 1 Garand.... people try to use a lot of different powders to try and duplicate what IMR 4895 does for the Garand.. since its available about anywhere.. I don't understand the bother....

I burn other powders in varmint rifles... but when it comes to hunting rifles.. those three powders along with 4198 for reduced loads pretty much cover 99% of my needs....

If you decide to try a different powder, take a look at Big Game. Max charge per Nosler is 47.5 grains for 140 AB or Partition. I use a magnum primer with ball powders. 2850 FPS, very accurate, clean burning, and temp stable.

Varget was almost as accurate but significantly slower.

Really my savage Axis throws that load all over the place. 42 grains it did about 1" groups. Just bought some speer 130 grain bullets gonna give them a try.
