My son tested out the 300bo Saturday morning at about 50 yards. Dropped her like a ton of bricks. Average size doe for around here. I was a little hesitant to let him shoot one so quick but I figure lets go ahead and break the ice this season and get something in the freezer. Check the cam afterwards and had about a 18'' wide 8pt on it just an hour earlier, about 200 yards away. He's antsy to get his first racked buck, it'll come at some point.

thanks guys

He's antsy for a buck now, had a 4pt come in that afternoon but I explained to him why we won't shoot those. We have several basket racks hangin around and at least two good ones so hopefully he'll have a chance at one of those soon.

I'll tell you what...that 300 blackout sat that doe right down at 50 yards. I was a little hesitant trying it out. He's killed a few with a 223,but 100yards and in...I felt a bigger and slower bullet would be a better choice at that range in the AR platform. We haven't lost one with the 223 62gr federal fusions yet, but one hit perfect behind the shoulder last year, glanced somehow and came out in front of the same shoulder...on a broadside shot. Another we were lucky to see it go down after about a 50 yard run, no blood trail, and took about 20 minutes to find it in the tall stuff outside the foodplot. He'll be on a 260 next year.
