WSKE Everett Pa. An 820 watt powerhouse of country music.
An acquaintance bought it some years back and tried to jazz it up.
He succeeded in getting it to the Early '80's..... maybe.

Tried to eliminate the county obituaries after the noon Paul Harvey broadcast.
They phone jumped off the hook and after a week, they returned.

At 10 on weekdays, they do a half hour Trading Post, call in classifieds.
Another staple he can't change.

Hicks, gotta love us.

DillonBuck,

Fwiw, it's NOT just PODUNK stations that do those things. = I used to do the After Midnight to 7AM show on a 54000W FM station, called: MUSIC FOR DREAMING.
(YEP, I took dedications, anniversaries & engagements, etc.)

There are some TRULY STRANGE people who are listening at those hours. = I used to have a woman, who had a voice like Marylyn Monroe, who repeatedly called-in on the "dedication line" & would say things like, "Honey Lamb, Can you guess what I'm NOT wearing??"
OR
"Honey, where the very tippy-tip of my index finger is??"
(Then she did a pretty fair imitation of the "Big O" scene from WHEN HARRY MET SALLY.)

Another "regular" called every night at about 0300 to dedicate PLAY MISTY FOR ME. ======> When that movie came out, I freaked out, as I had already decided that she was UNSTABLE.
(I have a GREAT FACE for radio, btw.)

I also did the 5AM "AG Show", followed by the "SWAP SHOP", too at 6AM.

yours, texd

yes, very cool. now most of the stations are more computer driven than anything. one of the DJ's on 'con does a live fb broadcast while records are playing. of course, they're live streaming the actual program on the net. 100,000 fm watts for us locals who don't want to mess w/the computer.

it's interesting to watch her flip channels, and do all the background stuff while the music is blasting on the actual broadcast.

Very few Ag reports here.

Some Jesus stations, or at least started thataway.

KJNP - King Jesus North Pole. The 50K watt torch of the north outta North Pole (the town;not geographically). Broadcasted salvation to Mother Russia (asymmetric antennae). Might still.

Locally:
KSRM - K Solid Rock Ministry. Now local talk radio, tradio swap&sell. One of our campfire members makes a radio appearance afternoons.

My Podunk story ( not about a radio station).

When I was in the Navy ( basic training), the senior trainers would line up the raw recruits and ask them/us questions.

One question was, "How big is your podunk?"

It sounds like a dirty slang term, but obviously means "your hometown.". It was surprising how many people from bigger cities had no clue to what "Podunk" really meant. Some guys would say, "Seven inches, SIR", or some number of measurement.
, which always got a chuckle.

There were a few women in our group. One of them, "Miss Petrone" had her turn being asked that question.

"Miss Petrone, how big is YOUR Podunk?"
Without missing a beat she replied, "Sir, my Podunk is SO big, you can drive a truck through it."

Pretty funny. True story.

Richard, I'm not sure that they came any "Podunkier" than KAYL back in the day.

ironbender,

KJNP is (or at least was, as I haven't heard from Mack in a while) the "radio home" of a missionary from my hometown church in Northeast Texas.
(His large congregation is over 90% Amer-Indians & Eskimos & most of the congregation's members are "subsistence hunters".)
Mack is the same pastor, that I've mentioned elsewhere on the forum, who had to shoot a hungry female polar bear INSIDE the church's Christian Life Center during a baby shower.
(Mack's eldest daughter, who is AK born/bred & seems to take everything that happens "way up yonder" very calmly, asked, "Daddy, did you really have to shoot her?? She just wanted to attend the baby shower.")

Note: Mack has repeatedly asked me since I retired to come up there to "do things for the church" & said that "Living in Alaska is exciting." - When I asked him what was "so exciting" about living in northern AK, he responded, "- - - - just staying alive".
(So far, I've been able resist his repeated requests to come up there "to do volunteer work" for our church's mission. = CHUCKLE.)

yours, tex

KILN-LP

Low power (no idea how many watts) out of the Niles Hotel in Alturas. Don't really get it out here where we live, once we get towards town it comes in OK.

Must be a computer playlist type of station for the majority of the week. They play a show called Blue Suede Music or some such on Saturday (Sunday?) that appears to be something they get from elsewhere.

Great mix of music, and most importantly.................NO COMMERCIALS!

Yep, and it's hard to see Jessica Walters without thinking of her line "Sterling, this agency doesn't exist so you can go jetting off to Whore Island."

The only station I listen to with Toe Tapping Tommy Tucker...the best DJ ever.

Don't like talk radio....I get more than enough political bickering right here on the Fire'.

KAVE radio 97.7 plays mostly old time country music. Claims to be the most powerful radio station in southeast Arizona. Commercials are terrible, low budget, Podunk things but the music isn't bad.
