Folks
I’ve got a Silver Hero3+ Camera I purchased specifically to self video deer hunts .
So far I haven’t been very successful.
Deer at even 30 yards are hardly visible.
I’m wondering if this is due to the lack of ability to zoom .

I’ve got another camera along the same lines as the GoPro but called “ Elite “ , which I purchased at a Large Sportshow for $80 that has the zoom feature . I’m hoping to try it this afternoon.

Anyone that can pass along any help using either of theses cameras will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

One should be able to have some effect on image size and resolution in the GoPro setup. Was gifted one, but compared to real cameras, have had no desire to use it.

If one gets a lot zooming ability, then camera stability and a narrow field of view will become issues. The wide angle views of the GoPro somewhat lessen those problems.

Need the right tool for the right job. Close-ups on deer are probably not the GoPro's strong suit unless you're still hunting and bumping bedded deer. If I could remember to keep it turned on, I would have a lot of cool footage. Battery life and memory demand judicious use of the available capacity.

With that said I had a hat mounted GoPro without realizing I had it running (turned off the audible and visible prompts which sometimes leads to that). Returned home to find that I had footage of two, ~240 yd cross gulch shots. At 1080p, I was able to see one of the deer tumble down the side of the gulch. Zooming in (with video editing software) revealed more deer that were captured. All this in poor light. Left me very impressed with what resolution a GoPro is capable of.
