I have a one piece Martin lh recurve bow I am thinking about selling. I don’t remember how it was shipped to me (62 inch length, iirc). Any suggestions on how to pack it?

A couple old arrow boxes joined works pretty good. Make sure to insure the package, I have had a couple broken. I think they would have broken those even if they were in a plywood box..............Oh, and hold onto your hat when they give you the bill to ship - it will be close to $50.

I've never shipped one but I think that's the route I would attempt to go.

The pipe is a great idea. Wrap the bow in bubble wrap. Be sure to leave some padded space at the ends. Might want to check what the express company's length limits are. UPS has a special talent for crushing the ends of long packages. They managed to bend a spring-steel cleaning rod for me.

A pvc pipe is the safest way to ship a one piece. And yes, check with your shipper about the max length they will ship.

Thanks for the replies. I think the pvc pipe might be the ticket.

I went over to a big archery shop, they move a lot of bows.......so have plenty of boxes going to the trash weekly.
Asked them if I could have a couple of compound boxes.
They said no prob.
Took two home and made a box for a 1 pc recurve.
Bubble wrapped the bow, filled voids in box w newspaper scrunched.
Bow arrived in perfect shape.
IIRC to ship UPS was 25 bucks, and the Post Office wanted 40.

I like the PVC pipe.
Schedule 40 if you don't mind paying more.
If you use end caps, someones gonna have to
work hard to damage that bow.

I would cap one end and use a threaded clean out plug on the other. Just make sure to let the glue fully dry for a few days as the fumes may effect the finish on the bow.

Takes a big pipe if your recurve has much curve to it.
