I was hell bent on buying a fancy model (brass wild life edition)henry rifle in 45-70 for about $1,000 bucks but found a Marlin 1895 in 45-70 no cross bolt safety (1975)for $725 in excellant condition.Happy with the choice..

I'd have preferred the no-crossbolt 95 myself. Please let us know how it shoots when you get a chance.

I'd have taken the Marlin too.

Personality, I don't like all the brass. Just looks gaudy. I'd much prefer some scrool work or engraving. Understated, but detailed.

Rifle should arrive this week.Gonna mount a weaver classic extreme 1.5 -4.5X24 scope on it..

One thing that turns me off on the Henry is having no load gate like Marlin and Winchester. The beauty of a load gate allows the shooter to grab cartridge from belt and replenish immediately while still on point. Henry tube feed, while true to heritage, just doesn’t cut it for me.

Yep, but unloading is a breeze on a Henry.

If you ever pulled the receiver covers off of a Henry you'll be glad you bought a Marlin.

give her a good cleaning & buff the moving parts.........

I have the Henry brass one in .357/.38spl, 20" octagon barrel. Got it at a good price and took it. I don't hunt with it, so, no problem toting it around. Strictly a range and desert bumming rifle. Very accurate with that barrel. I suppose the Weaver 1-3 variable helps.
If I were to buy new, I'd look at the new Marlin 1894 in .45 Colt or Henry Steel, not brass, same caliber. Also, the tube on the Henry doesn't bug me, as I mentioned, I do not hunt with it.

I like my Henry's just fine, but I would be hard pressed to part with my JM Cowboy.

You made a good decision.

On my Grandson's 38/357 Henry you have to cycle the lever quickly or it jams a cartridge. It does shoot well.

Henry's are fine rifles......

Just a tad muzzle heavy with that 20" octagon........

I have 2 henrys one lever 22 LR golden boy and the 22 mag pump.Both excellent rifles..

There are no covers to remove on a 45-70 Henry,mine is the case hardened model.There are on the 22 lever but not on the 45-70.I have both a 1979 Marlin and the Henry,both shoot good,both are very good quality,the only thing I see is the Henry feels a little front heavy,but it is a little lighter at the shoulder with the factory pad.I like my older Marlin,but I love the look of the case color.If I had my choice of a new Marlin or a new Henry,Id for sure take the Henry,the quality is there.I like the tube load,it don't bother me at all.To be honest,in 50+ years of hunting I never had to reload on the run,never shot more than 2 rounds ever at an animal,never needed 10-15 rounds to be throwing that much lead around the woods.Reloading on the run wasn't part of hunters safety,lol.My Marlin 39A loads from a tube,I've loved the look since I got it in 1976ish.Come to think of it,I've never ran out of ammo in that one either....Good job to the makers of Henry

I have a BBSteel Carbine and after I did a trigger job, it kicks ass.

I need to start on my 16” Carbine collection next!

I’ve been very disappointed with a few Henry Rifles. I sold a 30-30 single shot hours after I picked it up, the hammer pull was about 40lbs and trigger was the worst I’ve ever seen. I had one of the first 410 Leveractions that would bind, jam, and trigger sucked. My current carbine had a damn sucky trigger too but I fixed it myself.

I’m a lever fanatic but something to be said about a Ruger 77 All-Weather 308.

Its like many guns anymore are freakin projects
