I got the '91 Blackwidow HS riser holes filled and repainted.
It's FF rated and 54#.

So I was thinking.............should I try the G5 Striker 125 gr?
I shot a deer with one way back, from a compound. Zipped right on through and hit a rock, arrow blew up and I never found the BH.
They were scary sharp from the package.

I see 3 Rivers sells a sharpener for the Montec type of BH. Good reviews.
Shot a doe w a Montec years ago, and she spun and took it off the mark. Got her though.
Not a good test of the head.

So..............Striker or Montec?

That G5 125gr Striker Mag is a stud of a broad head, used to shoot them out of my old black max II bullet bow, it's a devastating head, iirc, I never had any deer move more than 50 yards after a hit, don't have any experience with the Montecs.

The Strykers fly good if you spin test them first, but you will find some that wobble straight out of the package...the Montecs fly great but are dull out of the gate, a piece of glass and wet/dry sand paper will fix that quickly. The Montec's are very accurate, and have won many broadhead shooting tournaments.

Fletch or vane control along, with properly matched shafts make all the difference in the world.

I shot the Strikers from my Mathews Switchback XT, flew fine (Blazer vanes on GT55/75).
Shot the Montecs out of a Blackwidow SA2 57# (4" helical parabolic on GT55/75 weight tuned).

I did the glass and paper deal w the Montecs and still was not impressed.
Am willing to try the new sharpener 3R sells.

Worst case they become groundhog heads.

Just wondering if the Strikers are being used by traditional bowhunters. Damn things are wicked sharp.

FOC is probably more important in traditional, many guys use weighted brass inserts for better flight & penetration...along with a strong helical 4/5"

Between those two heads, Striker, for sure
Despite what some may say, The angle on a fixed (vs replaceable) three blade BH makes it impossible to get as sharp as a replacement blade type of head.
If you want to spend quite a bit more, bit have a premium head, look at the Iron Will broadhead..

FWIW

Have changed the bevel on some fixed blade heads.
Magnus 2 blade and Snuffer 3 blade.
Worked fine.

Was not thrilled w 60 degree stuff of Montec or Snuffer SS when I tried them.
If new sharpener works better than what I tried, might run em.

My FOC is around 21% IIRC.
GT 55/75 w 100gr brass insert, 125gr tip.

Field tips, different broadheads..............using 125gr allows me quite a few options.
I like the insert being brass and not stacking collars behind reg insert, as you get more than 2 and hit the wall IMHO.
Your new combined insert length gobbling shaft length and lessening what can flex.

I'll twist up the brace and rip some through paper this week. Might have to build my sideplate out just a wee bit.
Let the papertune tell me what I need.

It aint lied to me yet smile

The G5 striker is a mean little head. I only shot one deer with one, from a compound.....and never recovered it. Zipped through and shattered offside leg at shoulder.
But it was a close shot. And I was shooting 72# LOL
