I suspect the shooter isn't up to the job. I have a first-year Marlin 17V that will shoot WAY better than that. I spent about $200 for it in 2002. With a good lot of ammo, it would shame that Tikka. Over the years, it has averaged, AVERAGED, 5/8" with the Hornady 17gr. load. Some groups are a LOT better than that 5/8", too.
You can roll a turd in peanuts, dip it in chocolate, and it still ain't no damn Baby Ruth.

Did you watch the video?
He is shooting TEN SHOT GROUPS. That alone adds 50% to group sizes- especially with rimfires.
BTW, I have owned several.of the early Marlin 17V rifles (and a few Savage m93s) thst shot as well as your gun. The pre Remington Marlins were all hammers with the early 2000s 17 HMR ammo..
I will say this- I'd bet 100 bucks that if you were to go out and buy CURRENTLY loaded 17HMR ammo, you would not be able to shoot 10 shot groups with any rifle you own much(if any) tighter than the guy in the video.
1.1" for 10 shots from an out of the box 17HMR under real world conditions does not suck.
Maybe we should all shoot our 17 HMR's at 100 yards and post targets of our 10 shot groups.
Or post video footage to back up our group claims...:)
One other aside- the 17s DO tend to shoot better as the bores and throats get broken in.
Several hundred rounds later that Tikka in the video might be shooting even better. Or on a day with less wind.
But as it stands ,you don't get any better in terms of overall ballistics than that 17g Hornady Vmax load so 1.1" for 10 rounds would make most owners pretty haopy and kill a LOT of vermin out quite a ways further.
Maybe we should all shoot our 17 HMR's at 100 yards and post targets of our 10 shot groups.
I remember not too many years after the 17hmr came out something happened with a semi-auto a ruger maybe? I guess the gun blew up . Never paid real close attention to the thread on rimfirecentral but I think there was a slight change in the ammo manufacturing process and hordes of experienced shooters claimed their rifles didn't shoot as well with the new ammo .
I'm one of them who claims something happened . I have a CZ American 17hmr that shot 3/4'' groups on nice days - then started getting 1 1/4'' groups with the hornady 17gr. vmax ammo .
Rifle is bedded , brookies trigger kit - trigger under 2lbs. burris signature rings 5.5x16.5 nikon monarch - checked everything mounted a tried and true 6.5x20 zeiss conquest on it - still couldn't get a group under an inch . Tried several brands ammo -cci - winchester remington - any and all - nothing has ever shot inside an inch for years . Gave the rifle another go a couple of years ago - checked over well good crown barrel cleaned to bare metal - shot a whole box of H 17gr. v-max 10 - 5 shot groups ranging from 1 1/4'' too 1 /3/4'' . CZ American 22mag shoots as good as the 17hmr , a friends 14 year old heavy barrel marlin shot great back then about the same story as my CZ now .
Tikka looks nice - too bad we can't get match grade 17hmr ammo .

Sakoluvr: I enjoyed that 20+ minute video - thank you for posting it. I have a LOT more scope power on my main 17 HMR Varmint Rifles so I won't try to compare them accuracy wise to this somewhat handsome looking Tikka Rifle. In other words I think the accuracy of the Tikka would definitely be enhanced with more scope power (duh!). I will NEVER forget the first day I took my first 17 HMR Varmint type Rifle to the range! Back in early 2,003 I took my brand spankin new heavy barreled Ruger 77/17 V/T to the range, and with Remington ammunition I promptly recorded a 5 shot group at 100 yards measuring .502"! Factory ammo (of course) with an all factory stock Rifle using a Weaver V-16 (4 to 16 power A/O) scope shooting this well - I was IMMENSELY impressed! I followed that up with another five shot group measuring .646"! In a more direct answer to your question with that power scope I would consider the accuracy from that Tikka as "fair" -again I am sure it would get much closer to 1" accuracy at 100 yards with more scope power and maybe some barrel breakin? I am not much on the new fangled black plastic stocks but this one on the Tikka gets a "passable" grade from me, looks wise. By the way on that first day of shooting back in early 2,003 according to my loading log book I also tried the other ammo available then - the Hornady 17 grainers, and I got groups (five shots at 100 yards) measuring .831" and .721". When the Remington ammo began becoming MORE expensive than the Hornady stuff (some years later) I switched over to using the Hornady 17 grainers full time. The accuracy of the Hornady ammo - its seemed to me - had improved a tad over those intervening years. At least it showed up that way in my trials. I don't shoot that Ruger 77/17 V/T much at ranges anymore - its accuracy is "saved" for Varmints and small game. I think I will hold off a while on the Tikka? To those "goin for it" I say best of luck and enjoy! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy P.S.: I sure admired/enjoyed the "Aussie" fellas "tucked in out of the wind" Rifle range! I watched the leaves on the trees and NEVER saw one move. Good for him and he did a good job reviewing/testing/explaining that Rifle
All: I just did some "perusing" on-line and apparently a person, nowadays, could buy TWO of these nifty Tikka T1-X (in 17 HMR) Rifles for the same amount of dollars they could buy ONE Ruger 77/17 V/T (in 17 HMR)! Hmmm.... Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
