Well you could buy a barreled action and utilize the stock of your choice and bed the action, thereby getting a somewhat custom. Find some good glass and your all set. I'll bet it will shoot as well as any $3K rifle. BTW the McM Edge is inlet for Wby Vanguard, which works for the Howa 1500. Manners, Bell&Carlson and HS Precision all stock inlet for Howa as well. BTW I would add not sure the weight of the barreled action shown is correct on the listing. That SA and 22" barrel has been listed at 4.5 lbs in the past.

Tikka does not make a 280 Pretty dumb to make a 7mm-08 in an action that is the same size as if you made it a .280.

Howa 7-08 Barreled ActionMcM Edge StockI like that combo... Stock cost is about as much as the rifle... The barreled action is 5.15#'s as advertised; that stock is usually around 26 oz. .15 pounds is 2.4 oz. 26 oz + 2.4 oz is 28.4 oz. Subtract 16 oz to bump 5# to 6#, leaving 12.4 oz. Total weight, 6# 12.4 oz. A light scope will take it up to 7 1/2#'s or so, if I figured it right. DF

Pharm, the tikkas just feel clunky and cheap and awkward to me.......but I may can overlook that based on your targets and many others I've seen.😁😁😁😁😁😁 Pharm shoots some great groups. He give a lot of credit to his rifles and BG powder. They don't shoot these kinda groups by themselves... DF I've got a Superlite 7MM-08 that shoots about the same groups consistently with factory Nosler 120 grain Ballistic tips and also the new Hornady Precision Hunter ELD-X150 grain ammo. It was hard for me at first to get excited about the Tikka but they sure grow on you once you start shooting them!!

They aren't nearly as expansive as the older NBT's, and that's a good thing. Killed a buck already this season with that load, chest shot, small entrance, 2" exit. There was a fairly good amount of internal damage; ran 50 yds and piled up. DF

Much as I like my 7mm-08, I shoot factory ammo and I'm sure glad that I have left overs from previous seasons. The locals seriously underestimated the 7mm-08 demand for ammo because Gander Outdoors had only one box of green box Remington 140's and Cabela's was totally out of factory ammo a week and a half ahead of the deer season. The '06 and .308 shelf was sagging under the weight of the ammo left there.

Those worried about the 7-08 being shut out by the Creed need not fear. 7-08 is here for the long haul. It's a great round. DF

(especially if you don't reload-or even if you do) Not much difference between them and the 308 may even be a little better as a hunting rifle with heavier bullets in ranges up to 1/4 mile.

Looking to buy a new (or used) 7mm-08 with a budget of $1000 for the rifle only.
I'm not a big fan of Tikka's, and I know many will recommend.
Here is basically what I want: 6.25-6.75 lb +/- rifle only, at least a 20" barrel, preferably 22", 3/4 - 1 moa consistently with a variety of bullets. I know I'm asking a lot..... You are NOT asking alot. Tikka meets ALL your requirements...with an accuracy GUARANTEE. Just tryin' to help...

My favorite 7mm-08 was a Remington Seven stainless. It remains a good choice. I also love my model 7 stainless. Just under 6.5# bare rifle, with 4 rounds of ammo, the sling, and a Weaver 2-7x33 it’s 7.4#. With handloads I can get it to shoot 1/2MOA, which seems to be exceptional for these rifles, but everyone I’ve talked to says theirs shoots lights out as well. I like that 20” barrel for carrying a long ways through thick timber. Mine is in 308 but I almost bought a M7 CDL in 7-08 at a gunshow last weekend.
