JB, I was glad to see your piece on the 6CM in the new HL. Coupla questions: 1. Have you used that 100gr Speer BT on game? 2. Did you try 4451 with the 95gr BTs?

I'm trying to decide on a powder to try for 95-100gr bullets, and 4451 looks pretty good, as does the RL 26 I already have.

BTW, the next time you talk to the boys at Nosler, you might suggest that now they've responded to the massive interest in their new .24, they maybe ought to start on some data for the Creedmoor version. I emailed them about it and their return yawn was palpable.

Thanks.

I've noticed Barnes has data for the 6 Creed. Even a new, slick, 95 gr. bullet. E

They do, and I've got it on the ol' iPad. I'm an internet data scrounge. I did pony up for the new Hornady book, e-version of course. They have data too, as does Speer and even Sierra. I bought a box of the 95gr LRXs and some of the Speers, but may not get any loaded for a bit, what with all the killin' to be done!

Sierra need to get busy too. Lots of new powders since their last one.

Never have used them on game, because they don't hold up very well in my "media" tests. They use a softer core alloy than Hot-Cors. That said, I am sure they'd do fine on rib shots.

Didn't try 4451 with 95 BT's, but am sure it would work well. It has done as well or better than H4350 in every other application.

John,

I think you must have a lot of fans that live in my area that have read all your praise on IMR 4451, or perhaps word has simply gotten around on it. It is never in stock locally. It's become more rare than H4350 which amazingly was actually in stock recently, but even that didn't last.

I'm sure I'll be able to give it a try eventually...

Yep, recently H4350 is in better supply than IMR4451. Just checked the 5 websites where I do most of my component buying, and both 1 and 8 pounders of H4350 are availabel on three, but it's out of stock on the other two. Two of the sites have 8-pounders of IMR4451, two list it as out of stock, and the other says "backorders OK," which normally means they're expecting some soon.

Except when buying 1-pounders of something I don't use much of, or a new powder I want to try, I generally order powder off the Internet in 8-pound jugs. It's usually cheaper (even with hazmat and shipping) than buying from stores--if any local stores even have what I'm looking for--and less hassle as well, since it shows up at my front door.

I figured they were soft based on customer reviews I read, but they were really cheap, plus I aready have the exact bunch of components listed in the Speer data. I fudged a bit when loading up some ELD-Xs with I4350 and ran into "trouble" pretty quick, well under the listed max. If the Speers shoot well, they'll at least be good for practice and "rib shots", like the Sierra PHs I use in .243s. Hopefully I'll have good luck with the 95gr Barnes for the heavy work, or find some 100gr NP data.

Guess I'll try whichever powder they have, plus pick up some more RL 26 before that gets too popular around here. I like to buy local when possible, and my dealer does pretty well keeping powder in stock; primers and bullets maybe not so much, especially the bullets since there are just so many out there now.

Thanks, John; I know you're pretty busy right about now.

Just got back from the store and H4350 is the only one of several possibilities they had, so just like a Chinese election, the choice was easy.
