I have been shooting the Barnes 120gt TSX for years at 3450fps from my 264 26"Bbl. Was looking at the Hornady 129gr Bonded. Does any one have chronographed loads for the Hornady bullet. Also the Barnes 127gr XLR. Wounder if worth the trouble to try. Looking at shooting a max of 500yds. Is there any real advantage to the heavier bullets at this range.

You’re fine with the bullet you are useing for 500 yards.

I tend to agree with you. Has never let me down. Just wanted to read some other points of view. If I need a higher BC I could go to the 120gr TTSX. Looking thru the drop tables in my Barnes loading manual shows only slightly flatter with the TTSX 120gr. Almost no difference with the 127 LRX. Barnes lab test show the 120TSX at 3000fps will expand at 700yds. I'm moving it at 3450 so no problem at 500yds.

I wouldn't put too much faith in that claim.

In 30degF and 26.8 InHg that bullet is only traveling at less than 1600 fps at 700 yards- well under the expansion velocity rating for the 120 TSX. If approaching those impact velocities, I'd certainly feel better about the LRX than the TSX. Given your muzzle velocity and range restrictions, any of the above will expand properly, but the LRX will drift slightly less in the wind. Out to 500, there's really not enough of a difference to worry about.

I would stay with the 120’s if they are shooting well in your rifle
