Anybody cook for their furry friends ?

A few years ago while thinking what to add to my meat list I thought of smoked ham hocks so on the list they went. Turns out they just aren't available at any of the stores where I shop unless buying in case lots.(box of 12) OK, I says to my self " put me down for 2" because in no time during the winter months they'll disappear quickly as ham & green beans are on my stove A LOT !Turned out they were just awful and just didn't get eaten very often

Fast forward,.... time for another meat run and I'm out on the porch at night with a flashlight scopin' the depths of the freezer box and I find some of the old vac packed hocks. Hmmmmm, what to do ?

I think that after thawing I'll just toss a couple into a BOP on simmer. Lotsa meat for my buddy as well as plenty of bones for later.

Got any animal cooking stories to share, guys ?

Denny, I hate to be a wet blanket, we spoiled our male Sheltie Rowdy with scraps, and leftovers. We thought he was so active he could work it off.

He never did get over weight, but his liver failed, and he was dead at ten years.

Our female now only gets a high quality dry dog food. Save what she can steal from grandson Gilbert that is.

Thanks Richard and definitely food for thought . I'm pretty fussy about my big lab's diet as he gets fed in the AM along with a very small potato chip as a reward after coming in from taking care of his business. That's it. Period.

Thinking that the hocks would be all natural with no seasonings simmered in plain water and used as a supplement to his morning meal. I always keep a close eye on his weight and in fact like to keep him slightly on the hungry side.

He's my best friend and never leaves my side.

I dread the day.

Eat healthy . Be healthy. Especially our four legged friends

High quality dry and wet dog food with leftovers tossed in for a little extra.

Always try to keep the dog lean and just on the edge of hunger before his next meal.

Last night he got skillet hamburger drippings in his bowl of dry dog food. He spends morning till night outside when he comes in the house to sleep save for a few occasions so little extra fat during the winter is good for the diet.
