A Piranta will break down a whole elk. What more does a guy need? Love mine.

I like the fixed handled Tyto too. The blades fit a little better on my Tyto also

I've had an idea for a fixed handle rolling around in my head for a few years...maybe one day.

Years ago I killed a deer at my Grandparents place and headed into town to get a couple of bags of ice to get the meat cooling. When I got back, Dad had the deer hung up and was attempting to start skinning it with a utility knife he got out of the tool box cause I drove off with the real knife. It woulda, coulda, shoulda, been one of those aha moments you hear about and I coulda been rich.

Ive been tempted to get one, but I think the weibe designs have easier blade changes.

The Wiebe Monarch folder with 3 extra blades that sells for about $20

GWB,

Do you have a separate building just to hold your knives? You sure have some (a lot) of nice ones.

Happy Holidays to you and yours.

I have a Piranta a fried over in OR gifted me years ago. I really like it in the fur shed but that's about as far as it goes. I have and enjoy using several really nice knives for hunting chores so it'll probably never see the light of day.

I’ve never used a havalon. I do use an outdoor edge change a blade knife. Handy on pigs with dirty hide.

Can be found at Lowe’s of all places. The cheapest version is about $20.

I tried a gerber this year, blade is a little longer (I think) than the havalon. Is nice for skinning but prefer a stouter blade for the other game related cutting.

I have done quite a few moose with the Havalon and used the Outdoor Edge for two bulls. The Havalon is far superior. the blades on the Outdoor Edge start out duller than the Havalon and get worse faster. Something around 25 moose, caribou, brown bear and black bears so far with the Havalon and only use the old standards a tiny bit during the whole job.

I saw a buddy break a gerber blade gutting a deer on my farm. The twisting motion did it in.

not sure if havalon or weibe has heavier blades.

I thought they all took the same blade, the Havalon 60A's are a bit thicker though. Cut don't pry.
