This idea that with no warning you are going to have to grab a bag and run, silly.

That is my go to E&E/bug out knife, has been since I bought mine back around 1990 when they first came out.
First thing I did was to blue the blade with some Brownells Cold Blue Paste. Drastically cut down on any shine as the blue
went on as a matte.
I carried that knife around the world in The Canadian Armed Forces until I retired in 2006. I could use a new sheath though.....

Great suggestions here cool

Question: Many knives are sold in two versions; plain edge or with a serrated section usually at the base of the blade.

I'm looking for pros and cons of this serrated section, years ago it was said that Cops and EMT's carried serrated-edge Spydercos to cut seat belts.

Does a serrated edge belong on a hunting/bugout/general purpose knife?

I'm sure that steel is well over 100 years old but it sure heat treated and tempered nicely."

You only have bug out bags if you are not prepared on a daily basis to an extent IMHO. But like others I've no aversion to them.
Knives and guns are almost always on or around us. Wife and I both. Figure we are likely to survive but then we live rural to start with.

Several $30 forschner boning knives.
Cheap and razor sharp.
Having cut meat for 40 years as a professional butcher, virtually everyone Ive ever worked with uses these knives.
I boned out my son's monster bodied bull on the side of a mountain last week with one.
I don't need a thousand dollar status symbol.

Upon reading this thread I realized I **NEEDED** a bug out knife, quick grin

Just flipped the switch on a Mora Bushcraft Orange.... about $40 delivered, highly rated fer the money.

'course, the day-glo orange is gonna make it that much harder to sneak up on an unsuspecting enemy but I just hate losing stuff in the woods.

Anyhoo.... I have my assorted Alamo hardware fer serious business....
