Have read a bunch of posts over the years that many people who CC have a "rotation" of guns. Every few weeks or months or sometimes seasonally they go from a Glock to a snubbie to a 1911 it seems to give each gun they own some meaning...

There are those who carry a full size revolver or semi during cooler months when they can wear a cover garment but go to a snubbie or micro-semi-auto during the summer and pocket carry...

Then there are those who carry a a certain caliber during the summer and then switch to another caliber for the winter to get more penetration through heavier clothes....

Was just wondering what all of you who CC do and why....

I carried a full size 1911 for decades in 45ACP +P and then went to the 45 Super, now I Carry a Sig P320 in 9mm with Critical Duty 135 grain +P. I went to the 9 because the Ammo is now adequate in my opinion and the agility to have 18 rounds without a magazine change.

I'll occasionally carry something else just for the heck of it, but my main 3 carry guns are a S&W 642, a Glock 43, and a Glock 19. Truth be told, the 642 or the G43 get the lions share of my carry duty.

Winter carry here's a ton easier - with the cold weather a hip holster is a piece of cake for any handgun.. If it's just a quick trip into town I can just slip a Kimber Micro or Kahr P-series in a coat pocket and be good.. IF I have to travel across the border into Mudduckland, the caliber size increases the closer I get to Murderapolis.. Usually then it's a OTB holster carrying either a Kimber Tactical Ultra II or a Ruger SR9C compact with 17+ rounds capacity..

Over the year's time I probably carry at least 4-5 different pieces - depending..

3" 1911 sometimes, Kahr CW-9 sometimes, XD-S often, XD Mod 2 Subcompact oftener and a Tristar T-100 when I'm feeling like I want 15 + 1 at family gatherings...

I feel the same about this, as I do my hunting rifle....use one firearm exclusively! If it fits like a well worn deer skin glove.....you will perform flawlessly as a “well oiled machine” when under duress! memtb

In the past, I've carried 1911's (5, 4 and 3"), a Sig 229, among other things. But, for the past several years now it's a Glock 19 the majority of the time and a Glock 43 sometimes.

Carried Sig 1911's in Government & Commander lengths. Recently purchased a S&W M&P in 45 ACP, 15 round magazine for road trips with the wife, drop it in the console with no worries of dings. Dropped it on the driveway the other day. Didn't hurt it a bit. It is no replacement for my beloved 1911's but it goes bang.

Why the 1911? The drawing of this gun is a fluid motion. The pointing of the 1911 is automatic. It becomes an extension of your arm. Packing it either IWB or OWB is pretty low profile. When I hunt with the 5" in 45 Super format, it is the most comfortable carry I could ask for. I believe the Sig 1911's are the most quality one can get in a commercially offered 1911.

I've been carrying an M&P 2.0 Compact, in 9mm of course, for the last few months and don't see me changing unless I need to be real discreet then it's a Shield in 9mm.

I do carry a 642 when I'm running or in gym shorts just going to the store.

When I was younger I carried a variety of pistols. Now I value proficiency and familiarity over variety.

Different guns for different purposes. Most of the time, it’s a Glock 17. The remainder is divided between an S&W 442, a NAA Mini Revolver, and a Glock 43. The 442 is for a coat pocket for evening walks in the winter. The NAA is for bathrobe pocket carry, and is with me when I let the chickens into the pasture in the morning. The 43 is for those rare occasions when zero printing is essential. Both Glocks are carried IWB. All four are said to be “in my carry rotation.”

yep two purposes, a P380 for pocket carry and a P365 for everything else.

Mostly the same type of gun all year 'round though there is some variety for very specific reasons. The vast majority of the time I carry a standard size S&W M&P 40 unless I am heading to the cabin where I carry a Springfield Service XD9. I change for this as I have a fair bit of steel case 9mm for plinking. When that is gone I'll go back to the M&P.

If I absolutely must be discreet I'll carry a Kahr CW9 but that is pretty rare. I carry a Government model 1911 to and from work for the simple reason that the IWB holsters for it are the only ones that fit over my uniform belt. That will change when I get around to getting a new holster for the M&P.

I own a ton of guns but only carry three...

Daily in NH: Colt Commander in .38 Super...have carried one daily since 1980.

When I CAN NOT carry the Commander due to concealment concerns then a Kahr P380 is carried.

Last is a G19/3. This and the P380 are the two guns I qualify with under LEOSA. I have qualified with the Commander in the past as well as S&W 6906 ex-duty gun but to keep things simple only do the two of them now...

In the woods hunting or hiking I'll carry a .41 Magnum or .357 wheelgun but just generally prefer a 1911 for personal defense against two-leggers...

I started focusing on pistols a year and a half or so ago, even though I've carried one for years. I do weekly range trips for practice now and shoot a few matches. At first I shot everything, Colt Commander 45, M&P45, M&P9, Shield, Sig 228, 640, 642, 629 Mountain gun and a 686. I started noticing the differences more and more then in matches, it really showed. So now I do shoot the others but the M&P's get the most use. Even carrying a spare mag in a different spot takes some getting use to so when I can, I shoot matches like I carry.

I've owned and carried serious handguns since Carter was pretending to be president. These days I carry a G30SF exclusively.

The weather is so consistently warm here, it really boils down to what I want to carry. It's not weather driven. Daily, for the past year, it's been a G41 gen 4 in an OWB under a tshirt. For a year and a half before that, it was a G19 gen 4 OWB under a tshirt. For the 10-12 years prior to that, it was a Kahr PM9 IWB under a tshirt.

If it's a quick run.to Publix (a block away), might be a 66-1, one of the Kahrs (PM9 or MK9) or a 642. Recently acquired and outfitted a G21 gen 4 for truck backup.

For everyday carry over the last 14-15 years, I've migrated to .45 from 9mm, and higher capacity, in response to general degradation of the social climate. I do not leave the door unarmed.

No particular rotation as to weather, I rotate all year round when the mood hits me, been carrying a DW 10mm mostly for the last month, it and it's 200gr xtp's at 1219 fps doubles best for leaning around a tree and busting a hung up buck deer during modern gun deer seasons, it's sitting right here stoked with eleven 140gr Lehigh Defense penetrators at 1500 fps, a 1911 bobtail commander with four extra loaded mags is sitting on the computer tower full of a new worked up load with 200gr xtp's at 1000 fps, i'll test those later today.

Year round carry guns:

Baer 1911 45 ACP, 185gr XPB, 230gr Hornady fmj-fp's.
DW 10mm, 200gr XTP, 140gr LD penetrators
Glock 21, 230gr gold dots, 230gr Hornady fmj-fp's.
Sig 226 40 cal, 200gr XTP, 140gr XPB
Colt LW Comm, 38 Super, 125gr XPB, 115gr LD penetrators.
Colt Trooper 357 mag, 140gr XPB, 125gr XPB, 125 gr XTP.
1955 S&W 45 ACP/auto rim, 230gr gold dots, 230gr Hornady fmj-fp's.

I just want my sight picture and trigger pull to be as consistent as possible. I actually hate carrying the p380 due to the long trigger pull but sometimes its all I can carry.

I tend to have one CCW gun that I carry (and shoot) almost all the time and one gun that I carry in places where being more discreet is required. Right now, it’s a Glock 26 and a Glock 42. I have spare Glock 19 magazines all over the place, including cars and gear bags. I keep some 9mm and .380 magazines handy that are loaded with Buffalo Bore Outdoorsman for outdoor situations.

I must say that I am finding the Sig P365 most intriguing, because it is accurate and has the capacity of the Glock 26 and is only slightly larger than the Glock 42, although it weighs 5-6 ounces more than the 42. There may be some adjustments down the road, although I don’t see it replacing the 26.

One concept I don’t understand is the idea of having a lesser gun to get milk and another to go to the big city. In my own personal experience, the stuff that bites people on the butt the most is the stuff that doesn’t fit the anticipated pattern and surprises them.

I carry a full size 9mm OWB when I plan on being primarily upright
I'll carry a more compact 9mm AIWB when I'll be mostly seated.
J-frame when hiking or hunting with climbing.

I started with a full size 1911 .45 inside the waistband as the only carry gun for a few years. It got to the point the weight bothered my back when I had to be on my feet all day. After that I went to a 642 during the summer and a 3" SP101 .357 during the winter. A couple years ago I had a brief stint with a Ruger LCP always with me but I sold that for quick cash to jump on another deal. Have intended to replace it but just haven't yet. Gave my brother the 642 because he always liked it and he helped me out a bunch with a few things. For the past year or so I have been carrying a Ruger LCR outside the waist band but have come to the realization that 1911's in particular and semi autos in general get on target a bit quicker for me. I am about to make the transition to a lightweight bobtailed commander size 1911, just need to find a dedicated holster that I really like for the shorter barrel. Every now and then I will change up and carry something different for one reason or another, sometimes for a few hours and sometimes for a few days.

A lot of people are giving their carry history rather than their carry rotation. That's a different subject. For me, that would be a long paragraph, since I've been carrying concealed since 1981, and my carry choices have regularly evolved since then.

I carry a Kahr CM9 in a front pocket (in a pocket holster) in the summer or anytime during shorts season. I carry a Glock G26 in a IWB holster the rest of the time. Sometimes I will also carry an LCP in a front pocket in just stepping out for something quick.

..not really looking for history as much as "current rotation"...if one has one... Some people just carry one gun all year...a lot of snubbie people are like that...

I've now settled for a Sig P365 with 124 +P Speer JHP GD during warm weather - here that's most of the year. This was a very tough decision for me because my preference, as the OP knows, is for 1911s. However, the positives of the P-365 are: the same trigger pull each time, high cartridge capacity, need only one spare 12 round mag, extremely concealable, excellent ergonomics, and very good sights for both day and dark.

When cool weather and coats are in season, I've settled on a 1911 LWT Commander in 9x23 Winchester with factory-duplicate Speer 125 JHP GD component bullet designed for the 357 Sig. This set up is ballistically equivalent on my chrono, to a 9+1 357 Mag with the same weight bullets. Enough penetration with the GDs and sufficient terminal ballistic impact.

2 back up Tripp mags are filled with the same load in the front mag and Winchester factory SP loads in the 2nd reload. Unlikely a CCW civilian would need any reloads, but while the use of SD weapons is happily an extremely improbable event, it is one that is totally unpredictable as to occurrence or circumstance.

Of course one rotates. When I know I'll be in the company of crude men, jaded blondes and cheap whiskey only the Dick's Special with split wadcutters will do. The other end are those soft spring days on the croquet lawn, lemonade and sparkling ladies and the pair of London duellers under the raw silk jacket.

I've carried Glocks for years (19, 23, 26, 27, 42), but once I put another 200 or so rounds through my Sig P365, that's going to change. A 12+1 9mm that fits in the same holster as my G42 is simply amazing.

So amazing, it's hard to believe it can be done with reliability equal to a Glock.

The first G42 I owned was a complete POS and wouldn't feed anything but FMJ's, and if you go back to when they were first released, people reported all kinds of problems. I've got 250 rounds through my P365 so far and it hasn't hiccuped once.

Have you ever seen a P365 in person, actually held one in your hands? My guess is no.

I don't carry full size pistols. They are just too bulky and heavy. I rotate between a Sig 380 and a 38 snubby.

I think it's important to limit the number of guns as they all shoot differently, with a different trigger pull, point of aim, safety/or not a safety, etc. In instant you acutally pull that gun to use it you need to rely on muscle memory and training. Just my thoughts.

For me it's usually a Glock, 27 or 17. Once in a while it's a 1911.

I tend to carry what I am currently most practiced with, unless some temporary mechanical or physical restriction is in effect.

I carry and use one pistol platform...the M&P. I have a compact for concealed/off duty, a 2.0 Compact for daily carry, a 5" Pro for uniformed or other overt carry, and a .45 for giggles. Makes life much simpler....

The entire "rotation" thing is silly.

Well, after finishing loading and shooting the rest of the 100 sticks of brass with the 200gr xtp's at 1K, reloading, and firing near half of them again, I'm ready to add the little Fusion custom bobtail commander to the carry list, I had already put a hundred rounds thru the pistol before this load workup, slap full of new springs and extractor from my 'smith a few months back, this thing is ready, it's very accurate, and shoots perfectly to the sights.

I even tried limp wristing it a few times to induce a failure, nope, it ran, I am however embarrassed to say groups with my Glock 21 ran twice as big, I HAVE to learn to shoot that damn Glock trigger! gotdamn different critters here men, although, I guess ten inch groups with the Glock at a braced and semi fast rate of fire at 20 yards would be plenty good enough for sd, they were all in a good circle, the pistol wants to shoot, it's just me.

At any rate, no failures of any kind with either arm.

No rotation but have added a Ruger LCP carried in breast pocket of either a shirt or shirt/jacket

As much as i like the 26 in the pants pocket when seated it is very slow to draw but the LCP in the breast pocket of my shirt or the breast pocket of a shirt /Jacket that issue is solved
and should the Glock ever hiccup I will have 7 more with the LCP.

I mostly carry a full size gun, an S&W SD9VE. Wonderful grip, very reliable, shoots well. I carry OWB in an Askins Avenger style holster. My rotation includes a Ruger EC9s when I need something more concealable, or a Ruger LCR.
