IMHO,

Just get the Ruger American Predator in 6.5
And put your own scope on it.

regardless of being a salvage, i owned a predator hunter and hated the balance and taper of the 24” barrel.

Nope, not at that price.

The scope is an "unknown". May be ok, may not be. Such scopes I value at about $100 max. I would not gamble more than that. Athlon is made in China and trying hard to keep it a secret. Odd how they refuse to tell you where their stuff is made. If it were made anywhere other then China I believe they would make a point in telling everyone. They don't

The rifle is worth about $400 used. Add $40 for the scope rings and bases if you feel generous. So the high end cost of that gun (around here anyway) would be about $540.

It's got a bit of $693 now, so it's already going for more then I believe it should.

Who ever bid that amount is not getting a "great deal" now. Going even higher makes no sense.

Which scope???

From the third line of the description; "Scope is Athlon Argos with 6 x 24 magnification with all the toys built in."

From the fifth line from the bottom; " Specification Magnification 8-34 Objective Lens Diameter 56 mm"

I appreciate the feedback.
Couple of questions:
1) What do you guys mean by "salvage"?
2) Looking at pricing, that rifle sells for $850 everywhere, so why is it not worth the price of the rifle and the price of the scope combined, not to mention the price of the rings and the 20 moa bases?

Thanks, it all education for me!

just because they 'cost' so much, doesn't mean they're worth it. But it's your baby. Love it as such.....

Not sure how "brand new" and "tack driver" compute. It may be one, or the other, but not both I'm thinkin'. If it was set up as a package for sale, that's a risky proposition since everybody has their own notions about stuff, plus that scope may be just fine, or might be crap; not enough miles on them to make a good guess. I might try a lowball bid if such a package was of interest (it's not), but $1300?, NFW.

I bought a savage predator max whatever like that in 243 several years ago. At the time I didn’t know any better, had heard savages shoot really well, and thought the fluted barrel and camo stock looked pretty cool. It did shoot pretty well, but it was a no feeding, muzzle heavy, overpriced POS.

I also suspect that low end Athlon scope is less than top quality.

My current 243 is a stainless tikka t3 lite, much better rifle all around. Besides Tikka, I’d take a Howa, Bergara, Remington 700, or even a Ruger American Predator over that savage.

Just my opinion, of course

Strange. Me & a hunting buddy both have Savage model 16's stainless in 260 Rem. Leupold 4x12 scope's. Burris Signature scope rings. Both almost shoot one hole 3 shot groups with the Barnes 120gr TSX. We have had these for almost 4 years with no negative issues. Three elk taken between us so far.

Savages just don't have much to offer over any other rifle. I did purchase one in 243 and shoots tiny groups but the rifle is bulky and weight isn't the best. I have other rifles that I shoot so the Savage sits in the safe.
On the other hand my buddy bought this exact rifle in 6.5 CM and shoots lights out, but like I said my Tikka lite shoots just as good in a light weight rifle.
