Well a bit ago there was some talk about rebarreling a 99 to 450 bushmaster, today for gigles I checked to see if the bushmaster would feed in a model 20. Looks like that is a doable conversion sure would be much more interesting than a small ring mauser.

I recently did a small ring mauser and it was a very easy and non-eventful conversion. About as easy as a cartridge/barrel conversion can be.

A Savage 20 would definitely be more "Interesting".

My goal is doing this conversion in the Savage 99 which I am well on my way in doing.

I think the Model 20 in 300 is interesting, and historical, all in its own. I would convert a small ring Mauser as comparatively they are a dime a dozen. Models 20s, not so much and someone down the road might use the dreaded b-word in trying to understand why. Or, do some other wildcat cartridge with a barrel change - though you will be restricted to cartridges with an OAL no greater than the 300 Savage. I once thought a 20 in 308 would be cool but it won't fit in the magazine and I suspect the original stock design would kick like hell. Since then I've lost my love affair with any Savage in 308 as, to be frank, what more than the 300 do you really need?

I bet the M1920 would be neat as heck in .250-3000.
