No, but it's something I would like to try. I have the portable blind and a buddy heater, but most of the specialized ice fishing gear I would still need. Been thinking about it....

Born and raised in the midwest, I know about Cold, Snow, And Ice. I can't fathom why anyone would knowenly subject themselves to those conditions to catch a bunch of panfish. Just me. If you like it, go for it. Me? I moved to Florida where i can fish all year in LIQUID water. Went out yesterday and caught, Snapper, Trout, and Redfish, and didn't freeze my butt off doing it.

Contrary to popular belief, Walt Disney is not. ...an anti-hunter? Of course he was. Every time he showed hunters they were liars, law breakers, thieves, terrible shots, and bad people in general. He also killed off mothers in his films due to his own mother dying while he was young. (It was his way of dealing with her death) Side note: no one who works for Disney could have a mustache, even the men. (Even though Disney himself did)

Did you know he had a water park at one time? He was using swamp water and his own onsite filtering system. City passed a tax requiring all water parks to use city water or pay a heavy tax. (It only affected him) he said Fuq-em, and shut the park down. Total loss of jobs and taxes.

With the thousands I have tied up in fly fishing gear, I'm not going to get into the "most lavish shack" competition. Some of those mid-west shacks are nicer and have bigger TV's than my home.
A bit envious, but leave me out.
Some of you lake country folks please put up your images.

Spent today getting my ice fishing gear all set for the season. Had to put new line on some reels, put the liner back in my striker suit and charge the batteries for my ice drill. I'll try it tomorrow somewhere near the house.

We plan to put the "hard shack" out on Saturday Richard. Got all the "mobile stuff" ready too. From a couple of years ago; Nothing fancy, but nice & warm thanks to the wood stove. For my mobile sleigh/tent set ups I use Mr Buddy propane heaters in both !

Paul, do you catch more inside, or outside the shack?

Always fish outside Richard, no holes inside of the hard shack.
I will usually have a hole in my sleigh tent though. Unless it's a beautiful day !

It is good to see you rough it Paul, no TV dish there. I think about taking a radio out, but then I remember CKDR.

My buddy was thinking of taking his satellite radio boom box out.
I told him, "if you wanna do that, find someone else to fish with" !

great stuff guys. I play in the full spectrum of the ice fishing scene. wood stove in a plywood shack, hand cut spear hole, home made spear. Portable gear behind the snowmobile, head out across the lake and fish the spots you cannot get to with trucks. I've gone as far as running a retired trail groomer (snow cat) and pulling a home made skid house out to locations A skid house has no business being.Tip up fishing outside is one of my favorites. And, I'm completely guilty of the lavish hydraulic framed RV style wheel house, thermostat controlled furnace, honda generator, satellite dish, flat screen tv, fishing in flannel pajamas and slippers, sipping a beer all day.

Any way to stay busy during the depths of winter, is OK by me.
Fresh fish is certainly a bonus !
Got fish tacos again for lunch today.

Been thinking about one for a couple of seasons, particularly for when mobile running & gunning. I honestly don't know. I bought that one for nathan several years ago, probably 4-5 yrs now. I don't have one but he doesn't like being without one. I believe that one is the humminbird ice 35, their entry level unit. A lot of my friends say all you need is the entry level units such as the vexilar FL8 or 12. Too much work for me, although I do like watching the boys catch suspended fish with these rigs.

The other option I have, is to remove my Helix 5 chirp from the boat, as it does have the flasher screen.
But I think it would be a pain to set up as a portable. Need some kind of case, battery for power & the ice transducer thingy is about $135.
People tell me the entry level units have lots of interference, if there are other units being used near by !?

Yeah I don't know enough to comment on the interference thing. I've seen it happen fishing with 2 friends that are running them in the same house with me, but how often would you actually have 2 flashers going in close proximity to each other?
They seem to start out at around $275 in the US and they go on up beyond the price of a really nice rifle. lol.

Looked like a nice pike! Okay, so newbie here on ice fishing. Going to try perch and walleye this winter. Any thoughts on type of ice fishing rod as in light or medium action? Recommended line for ice fishing? Thanks for any info.

I can almost smell that mill smoke from Iowa Paul. I've always liked that smell.
It looks a bit snappy weather wise, but like a good time. Save me a couple!

Can't decide on crappie in the river mouth, or more walleye & jumbo perch at eagle.
