I've got a dozen or so of Gene's knives but not a YellowJacket. For those who have used one on deer, what do you think about it for that purpose?

Thanks, RS

Its ideal for field dressing deer, IMHO. I prefer Gene's Nilla pattern but the yellow jacket is right there with it.

Here are a couple pics of my 2 yellow jackets in various stages of use

What Dude270 said... I've had one for several years now and it may be my most used knife for deer. It lives in my hunting pack. I traded into a second one a short while back but haven't carried it yet....aside from when I use it and then clean it up the original never leaves my pack.

I've been wondering the same thing. If anybody owns a yellow jacket and a nilla, would you mind posting a pic of both?

We have a few different ones but not a nila. The last Ingram was a yellow jacket had it made from a little thinner stock and tapered tang. It is a favorite.

I've had both and may have a side by side pic somewhere.....I'll look later.

I prefer the YJ but it's just a preference thing....both are great patterns. I'll see if I can find the pic later.

Both are excellent patterns if you like smaller knives

Enjoying the heck out of it. My youngest LOVES it! Haven't taken either of the youngest two hunting with it yet but probably will over Christmas break.

Agreed, I'm thinking the Yellow Jacket with a 3" blade would be a good choice

Not a Yellowjacket fan. Have had two.
In that weight class the old school #5, and new school (uncatalogued) 4S punch hardest...
and I have, and have used, them all...

4S is a fine knife for sure. I still like my Nilla best of the small ones.
