Any experiences with the Nosler M48 Western or CA Ridgeline? Looking at 6.5CM or .300WM. This is primarily for backpack hunting. Both seem to get great reviews. Cabelas has the M48 on sale for a few hundred off. Just not sure on the carbon wrapped barrel as that is pretty new to me.

I have a Ridgeline in 280ai and it’s fast becoming one of my all time favorites. I only have 3 boxes of factory ammo through it and it’s easily shooting 1/2” - 3/4” groups. I can’t wait to start load development, and what a pleasure to shoot off the bench with the brake on.

Not fond in any way of the composite stocks Nosler uses. Handled them several times an d they feel chunky.

The CAs (Mesa and Ridgeline) on the other hand, have much more ergonomic feel to me - slimmer, trimmer and overall more appealing. I own a Mesa, Mesa LR, and a Ridgeline and have second Ridgeline ordered.

FatRooster,

Have had both Ridgeline and Mesa in 6.5 CM. Kept the Mesa. Both are 1/2” or better with Hornady Precision Hunter factory ammo. The Ridgeline is slightly lighter weight. At less than $1100 the Mesa is in my opinion the most accurate, complete rifle currently available for the dollar spent. Nothing needed to upgrade or change. I have no experience with the Nosler other than handling. To me they are much heavier and bulky than either CA mentioned.

Good luck,
TG

Thanks for this. I was looking at the Mesa as well. Was it purely a value standpoint for going with the mesa? Did you find the carbon barrel made it more "clubby" or less agile maybe?

Thanks guys. Seems spot on with all I have heard on the chunky Nosler stocks.

Mesa is a great value, IMHO. Pretty much what a Rem 700 should have been from the git go. Side-bolt release, great trigger (TriggerTech), fluted bolt, all in a svelte package. Assuming you did all the work yourself, you'd be hard-pressed to put a rifle with the same features together for the $1300 (or less) retail price on this gun. As for the CF wrapped barrel, my personal opinion is that is in no way make the rifle feel 'clubby' or less agile. YMMV

took my ridgeline to the range today, fog here today so i could only see 300 yards 1/2moa gun with 180 grain accubonds.
little recoil with the muzzle brake, fired 25 rounds and a very comfortable gun to shot. with a zeiss hd5 3x15x44 weights in 8.7 lbs
would buy another one in a heart beat.
