RCBS, Redding, Lee, Lyman? I realize they may not be the best for precision ammo, but I want one for pistol calibers and some run of the mill plinking stuff. Thanks

I started with an OLD RCBS single stage press that I'm not even sure of the model.

I then went to a Lee Classic Cast single stage about 6 yes ago.

About 2 years ago, I moved to the Redding T7. I haven't tried any other turret presses and doubt I will now. The Redding does all I need...rifle, handgun, I'm good. If I made any changes, it would be additional turret heads.

I load ammo for my 6mm PPC benchrest rifle on a Redding T7, with Redding Competion bushing dies. Of course, the brass is caerefully selected and neck-turned, but bullets run-out never exceeds .0005 inch (that's one two-thousandth of an inch), and 5-shot groups at 100 yards average .15 inch.

You need to check your math, one two thousandth of an inch is .002" and .0005" is five ten thousandth of an inch one fourth of .002". To put things in perspective a particle of dust measures .0002".

I'm impressed! I've got a real issue with runout on my .375 Ruger. Still getting MOA, but I need to special order some Lee Collet dies, probably not going to need the Competion dies for that application.

Redding

I use an old RCBS Reloader Special press for resizing, and a Lyman Turret press for bullet seating. I keep several seating dies, along with a bullet puller in the turret press. I just find it easier for my use, by doing it that way.

.002" is two one-thousandths.

And one two-thousandth is 1/2000 = .0005".

Been a Journeyman Tool & Die Maker for 40 yrs. and never heard of .0005" being expressed as one two thousandth. But carry on, whatever pleases you.

Let's not get into professional qualifications for dealing with fractional arithmetic.

It's not what pleases me, it is what is mathematically correct.

I too would have said a half thou, but one two thousandth is mathematically correct.

Sure. I wouldn't have used one two thousandth myself, I'd have said a half thou, or five tenths like you wrote.

What got my attention was your telling someone to check their math and then saying .002 was one two thousandths, which is flat wrong.

As to qualification dropping, you started that ball rolling Mr. Knowitnot.

Mea culpa so I got my syntax wrong, meant to say two thousandths, doesn't make me a knowitnot Mr. Smartypants.

I ended up going with the Lyman, $170 ish, free shipping, Optics Planet, on eBay. eBay has a 15% off coupon today. Couldn't pass it up.
