Anyone use 160’s in a 270 Winchester? I’m looking at the partition for black bear and deer from 0-200 yds. If that far.

I tried them in my Model 70 with RL26. I couldn't get them to group well. This rifle is a 1.5 MOA shooter with 130s and 150s but the 160s were closer to 3 MOA. I only tried a couple of loads though. The guy at the gun counter at Bass Pro (for whatever that is worth) speculated that 160s are too long for my rifle. I am not sure that makes sense but I am just a basic hand loader with rudimentary gear.

I have not used them with the .270 Win. They were the most accurate bullet I tried in a pair of .270 WSMs ... the only accurate bullet in one of them. I absolutely will try them in the .270 Winchester if I own another.

I loaded NP 160's in a Rem 700 using H-4831SC. The bullet grouped right at MOA.

I’m going to use them I my 1980 vintage M700 for still hunting deer and when I go black bear hunting. I know it sounds counterintuitive to use a 270 for this but it has the original iron sights on it and I will be using it with those over hounds. I just like the heaviest for caliber bullet when doing this style hunting and iron sights are more handy. My 280AI is going to get some Williams iron sights as well and I’ll be running 175’s out of it for the same purpose. I’m going to see how I like the performance out of them for thumping bears before I totally commit to a 35 Whelen project. Although a Whelen barrel on my M700 is awful tempting.

I like the old Nosler SMP bullets....
4831SC is the best powder for accuracy in my experience with it....
was running at 2950 fps/./////

I've had really good luck with the 150 gr. .270 partition. Sub-moa in my rifle using H4350. The sectional density of the 150 is .279 vs .298 for the 160. Not much difference. Either one will penetrate a bear. And the 150 actually has a better ballistic coefficient, and pretty much any .270 will stabilize the 150.
