About a year ago there was a lot of info posted on this forum re: modern powders in the .264 mag.

Did a search but can't find anything.. Have all winter to get this thing cooking and would appreciate and info.

Mine likes RL26. 64.5 grains gives 3100 fps with a 140 Berger, very small groups off the bench, and very predictable long range performance.

Where did you find load data? Or did you just work up to it.

Thanks,

My barrel must be a touch faster.

My notes: 142 gr ABLR, 2.72 COL; 62.0 gr RL-26; ~.50 inches (group size); 3098 fps; ES 11 fps

Just worked it up. After talking with some 264 users that had tried it.
I started with 70 grains but that was giving me hard bolt lift for not having much % fill. I worked to find a max pressure, which for my combination of rifle, brass, primer etc and never got there. Got to that load and played with seating depth a little and settled on that combination.
Alliant makes some great powders, they just seem to not take the time to really wring them out in other potential cartridges.

Could not find any R26 but did find R33. I will start with that with 140 Bergers and or 140 AB.

I've read good things about Retumbo. Modern or not, it does work.

Yea those Collie sized Texas deer would probably die just from the sound of the .264 going off.

I dabbled with Re-33 and had off/on performance. My loads under 130 NABs were shy of what I'm reading here from guys shooting 140/142s, but I had primer pockets expand. (R-P brass; since changed to Norma.) I don't know whether it's Re-33 or my M70 SG, but I couldn't get the gun to reliably print. (I'm assuming it's not the Noslers, but everyone's a suspect at this point.) One off-season experiment will be to go back to "older" powders, like 7828, 4831, etc and see if I can get some real consistency. Velocities with Re-33 are impressive, but 3" flyers take the air out of that balloon pretty quickly.

Yep, the 264 doesn't take just whitetail.

Nice video!

What 140gr Berger bullet are you using? primers?
