I've got a late New Haven M70 Fwt 243 with Burris Dual Dovetail Signature rings. When the scope adjustments are centered, the thing shoots nearly a foot to the left. I don't know if it's tapped out of alignment or if the barrel is in crooked. I've got a set of the offset rings up to .020" ordered and going to try to get the scope close to centered on the adjustment. I noticed that in the images, the notches for screw clearance are only at the dividing line of the halves. If I want to turn them sideways it looks like I'll have to cut new notches.
Does anybody have any idea of which offset inserts would be close on this rifle and which way do you orient the heavy side of the insert?
Ring spacing is about 4.125". Offsets in the kit are .005, .010, .015, and .020".
Thanks

Turn the insert where you need to. BTW, I recommend buying the insert kit with three different inserts.

Ole 270. You do not need the notches in the plastic inserts themselves for the ring screws. The ring screws are completely out side of inserts. As far as scope orientation, You want to point the front of the scope towards the bullet impact. So if You are shooting to the left, put the +20 insert on right side of front ring, and the -20 insert on left side of ring. Remember the center of the inserts are the 20 measurements. So in other words, the split where they meet will be vertical. I even do it if I am hitting 7:00 oclock from center of target, orient them at 7:00 and 1:00 oclock in the rings.

If your poi is left, put the "-" to the left in the front ring or the right in the rear ring. You are trying to angle the scope towards the poi. If you envision that, it is pretty easy to see what you need to do.

I don't think you'll need to cut any notches.

Edit: That is mostly redundant as I apparently typed slower than bricklayer.

Take a really close look through the bore. Once I had a custom, yes a custom, with a bent barrel. The bore had the slightest oval shape. The bullets hit 24" to the left. Of course no one accepted responsibly.

Thanks guys, the rifle is pretty accurate, but with a VXII 2-7LR it's about out of adjustment. Figured the scope might be more reliable closer to center. I just got the scope back from Leupold and after they centered the adjustments the 1st group was 1" low, 12" left.
edit- I did order the kit, any thoughts on which offset to try first?

Also, the 10's should get you close with your ring spacing.

I'd try the 10 +/- insert. I'd put the +10 side to the right and the -10 on the left in the front ring with the split vertical. Think of moving the angle of the scope like adjusting a front sight. You move the opposite of the way you want to bullet to hit. If you need more use the +/-5 in the rear ring but opposite of the front insert to get more of an angle to the left.
