I seen this on the net and could't believe it. The weather service is almost always right on their forecasts. Look for yourselves.

We had a bit of near 0 degree's but it immediatly dumped a layer of snow and the swamps and waterways are perilous, we went checking the ice towards Kokhanok Bay yesterday and 50' from 7" of ice it was 3/4",, I was able to water (ice) skip 1/2 mile to solid ground but my brother in law & sil went through and lost their machines in pretty deep water. I had a sat phone and was in contact with rescue service's when they eased over 200yds of bad ice to land. Machine retrieval when it freezes good enough and the thawing and drying process begins!

It is going to get weird!

I remember a number of them over the years and little things like colder temps in Florida than Prudhoe Bay in mid-winter...

The altitude that this temperature change is forecasted for is normal for airline traffic. Typically they don't have weather issues at that level. Temperatures at +35,000 could run -80F -90F below. If this temp change happens there could be weather system the pilots need to avoid. I don't know about weather patterns, but the reports around the pole always seem to be about finger shape patterns that they can't figure out. I don't think there will be a lot of change for any one area. The change might be a forecast for a amplitude change in the polar vortex. It could signal a freezing rain event in Kentucky rather than Ohio.

It looks like the effect of the polar vortex wobble will be hitting us Monday. Lower Michigan is schedule to hit -20F. It will be a wake up for many. The design temp for homes in this area is -13F. Modern high efficiency furnaces will have hard time keeping up. It's not like the good-ole days when furnaces had 50% greater capacity than needed.

We're having a mid-january thaw which is following an early January thaw.

Sucks.

it's -14F tonight and the natural gas is out. A compressor station blew up and most of Michigan is on a low supply warning. It looks like I'll be moving into my RV. I got 60# of propane. This could get serious.

I see a lot of ruptured copper pipe in Michigan's future! Good luck!!!

It looks like one of the electric powered compressors blew up. My hunting camp in northern Michigan is across from a compressor station that has jet engines running the compressors. Very loud. The jet engines run on the natural gas that they are pumping.

Yup, likely LM1500s... solid machines if ever there was one! But the jacking around of production occasioned by the introduction of unstable alternative energy sources has detonated many of them early in their life cycle...

We got 8+ inches of Kenai concrete. Too wet to even move . Maybe tomorrow with cooler temps.

the only real difference between a good tracker and a bad tracker, is observation. all the same data is present for both. The rest, is understanding what you're seeing.
