The 338 has been brought down to just another hunting rifle! It use to have heavy metal!!! 275g>and even 300g bullets but the talking heads on the rags >>spill their vommit>>> saying well bullets are better and just shoot a 225g or 200g or even a 185g in your 338!>>MMMM Then why even buy a 338 >> get a 270 and the bullets are better so that should bring it up to a 338 times are strange!

That’s the bullet I use in my 338/06. It’s quite a hammer on elk. I hope I have enough for the rest of my life. Got several hundred old Speer solids, may drill a hole and test on water jugs against my precious supply of 275 grain softs.

Have they taken out the Masculinity out of the 338? I see the 375 H&H and all the 375 hold to the 300g bullet as the best and bigger is better but with the 338, they are always pushing the lighter bullet!! Why?

I was lucky to see the writing on the wall and bought for the rest of my life time , the speer 275 bullet is long beautiful bullet hits very hard and a tack driver!! should I say it again a tack driver! And Cheap!! you go try buy a 338 275 bullet today !!! you better have a thick wallet!! Speer had a real winner and why they dropped it was a big mistake!! O Ya smaller is better for the 338 as the rags say.

I think the 338 is a poor mans 375 H&H but a 416 ,you shoot a 400ger Rigby, Rem and Weth are in a class of their own !

It was dropped because not enough handloaders bought it.

Given a choice between a 275 grain Speer and a 275 grain Swift A-Frame,I would buy the SAF.

thats a common problem.... you find a great combo of bullet and powder and either the bullet or powder is discontinued
I found an amazingly accurate load in my 257 roberts BLR using RL12 (now discontinued)
Ive had similar issues with the 190 grain hornady in the 300 wby(now discontinued)
405 grain rem in the 450 marlin(now discontinued)
300 grain rn hornady in a 375 H&H (now discontinued)

Have you tried the 400 grain Speer in the .450 Marlin?

I like them for plinking and varmint hunting in my .458 Uber (aka .460 Wby.)

They would be the cat's meow in your .450 Marlin.

That was Elmer Keith's favorite bullet for the 338 win mag and the 338-378 KT.It has a good bc so it's a long range hard hitter .
He used it on elk ,pronghorn and deer .I.am going to use some swaged down to .333 for my .333okh rifle that will hit hard too .
I wish Speer would make them again !
