Just a little rant cause why not?

So I took the drive down to the Cabelas in El Paso today knowing it probably wouldn't be worth my time but what the hell, I was bored so I did it any way. A friend told me they had a fly tying section and I've been looking for an ITW holster for my HK P30SK.

As soon as I went inside I made my way over to the fishing section. The guy in that department saw me coming and immediately asked if I needed help. I asked him if he had a fly tying section and he enthusiastically answered "Yes! Right this way." Now that kind of took me by surprise because I really didn't expect them to have one, but my surprise was short lived. Apparently his idea of a "section" was a small rack that was mostly empty with about five or six items hanging from it. When I looked at him with what must have been a "WTF?" expression on my face, he sheepishly said, " Yeah, I'm kind of low on stock at the moment."

So with that bust in mind, I headed over to the guns department. I found an in the waist tuckable holster marked for Springfield XD compact. I have a holster that I can fit both my XD and P30 in so I went over to the gun counter where they had a P30SK in order to ask if I could try it in the holster to see how it would fit. The girl behind the counter took the holster from me and then took out the pistol and put it half way in but had to stop because of the gun lock. She then looked at me and said "It looks like it would fit but I Can't take off the gun lock here. I'd have to go in the back to do it." I asked if I could go back there with her so I could try for myself and she said no, but that I could watch her through a window. It was about then that I thought about asking if she wanted to try on a pair of shoes for me too, but then thought the better of it and just said " That's ok, thanks..." and walked away.

About the only thing I've found Cabelas useful for lately has been clothing when it's on sale. Otherwise it's just high priced bullshit and the people who work there don't know shyte from shinola. It's kind of like the Home Depot of sporting goods...

Did they kill the Bargain Cave in El Paso? When I was down there last summer I found some decent deals in there.

I was at my first Cabela's a couple weeks ago.

It was pretty cool. They had a big assed fish tank and a Santa Claus.

That’s about the size of it.

It's gone. The old bargain cave is now their camo section.

The one in Buda TX was really starting to suck the last few times I was there maybe a year ago. Years ago the bargain cave really did have great bargains on super good stuff. All I saw was discontinued clothing and crazy large oddball sizes and prices were same as being on the racks in the store. I'm done with the place. My wife had to drive past that place a couple of months ago so I asked her to stop off and get me a bottle of obenaufs leather oil because I was out and can't get it where we live.fishtank was still cool from what I remember, but I'd rather take my daughter to the zoo instead. Screw that place

Yeah, that's what they did to the one in Albuquerque. I'm in Glendale right now and they still have a Bargain Cave, but much less stocked than last time I was down here.

It was on a downhill slide and has accelerated exponentially since the Bass Pro goons took over. I've got a couple of gift cards to burn and thought I might go buy some boolits or overpriced powder with them. I'm betting on store closures soon. Bass Pro is just as bad.

haha! bought some Mendel hunting boots there years ago that were the worst thing that ever touched my feet! In a pinch I bought a pair of 10x50 Cabela HD bins for $219 that blow away every other $500 glass I've looked through. But in general the place is way over priced. You wanta hit the sales??? Take about $1500 with ya and just get it over with. Years ago I scored the best deal on wool pants on the planet in the bargain basement. It isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Couple days after Christmas, thought I purchased a Centerpoint Sniper 370 crossbow. Real deal, free shipping; I was given a date when to expect it. Few days later, phone call and robo email that it is out of stock. I called, they are allegedly not getting anymore, yeah. right. No raincheck, no nothing. Told them to send me physical gift card back as I used mine online towards purchase. Told them I was through with them as they have gone downhill since Bass picked them up. Too bad.

Used to be OK and they had other competition to keep prices somewhat in check. The day Bass Pro, who used to be competition, bought them out was the death toll.
