I am having a custom 257 Weatherby being built and planning on using 110gr accubonds or 115gr TSX or partitions, if anyone has loads that are outstanding I would appreciate them. If you are using H4831, Retumbo or R25 I have those powders but will be happy to hear about others. Velocity and accuracy appreciated.

Thanks
Regards John.

Lots of guys on here swear by RL 22 in 257 wby. fed 215 pr. 100 tsx, 110 accub, 115 b-tip, 120 part. etc. I havent tried it yet. I tried RL25 from 70 to 74.5 gr in wby brass fed 215M, 110 accubond. In my submoa all the charge wts shot pretty well. I have settled for now at 74 gr at 3400-3450 fps. OAL 3.25 i think. I don't have much drive time with the 257 yet. there is alot of data on here if you search the threads. Reloaders nest is another source as well as realguns.com Good luck! Maybe some of the more seasoned 257wby guys will weigh in with a more qualified opinion.

110 Accubond with 72 gr RL22. 3400-3500 fps. Work up slowly, start at 65gr or so.

POP - 72grs of R22 seems HOT but maybe not in yours. I and many others use 72grs behind 100's. I use 68grs behind a 110AB in my Vanguard for 3450 and submoa groups.

It looks like I need to try R22 for the 110gr, I will and see if it works in my gun. I am going to try some Retumbo as I have found it accurate in my 7MM RM and slow burning so it should work.

Having just today picked up my Weatherby MKV Ultralite in 257wby mag I'd be most interested in the results of you load development.

Keep us informed.

Any of you guys kill anything with the Nosler Accubond bullet at higher velocities? I'm curious what the bullet might look like after being launched at 3300-3400 fps out of the 257 WBY.

I have used the Retumbo behind the 100 gr Barnes TSX in two different Weatherby rifles with charges from 77 to 81 grains, found best accuracy at around 78 grains and 3,580 to 3,610 fps, with Norma brass, Fed 215GM.

115 gr Barnes TSX
69 grs Reloader 22
Norma Brass
Fed 215GM
Velocity - 3430

I think the Retumbo is a bit slow burning for the 100gr. bullets and never tried it behind the 115 grainers.

In regards to the 100 grain pills in the .257 Roy I have found best accuracy is at the 3,600 fps range in both rifles. I have cranked them up to 3,700 and accuracy is not as good.

I have never tried the Accubond but did do some experimenting with the 115gr. Ballistic Tip but never could get velocity or accuracy I was pleased with.

If you go to the nosler forums you will see a bunch of animals killed with the 110 AB out of the 257 Bee!

john,
Don't overlook the 100 gr. TSX in your load development. I use it over 72.0 gr. of RL22, Wby. cases, CCI Mag primers, for a chrono velocity of 3700 fps (actually 3705 avg. fps, but who's counting). In terms of accuracy, this load is far superior to any other bullet weight I have tried, in my Mk.V.

Is there a rule against posting the link?

Bighorn I have overlooked them and they do sound appealing, A great bullet for the speeds acheived by a 257 weatherby.

Bighorn,

Is 72.0 grains of RL22 a max load for the 100 grain TSX bullet?

bearstalker,
Yes, it is a max. load, according to which reloading resource you consult. I have not pushed it over this mark, as the velocity is also max listed in the data.

It shows no indication of excessive pressure in my rifle- cases extract easily, no primer problems, etc.- and load development occurred in fairly warm weather conditions.
