Guess the Gulf Coast is too warm for geese. Big Vs following the Red River north this AM.

Ugh, my hope for a successful Arkansas trip late season is quickly fading away.

Yep, Arkansas is darn near duckless right now. Many say it is the worst hunting conditions in their lifetime. Bummer! Our trip out there was canceled too.

Friends of mine went up to southwest Arkansas last week end . The two of them got six Mallards. They admitted they didn't see many ducks.

Either weather or trying the geography-Canadian geese are in NM-AL.

Using a 1923 AH Fox HE Super Fox 3IN double, got my share of large Canada geese this past week. Finding tungsten or right sized bismuth
shot shells harder than locating the geese. With a double -you can load different load in each barrel depending on the range.
BB or BBB seem to be the best bet, while B shot will work. Stubble and grass or corn fields work. They tend to go to large lakes to rest or
spend the night for security from predators. In NM-its alfalfa fields and irrigation ditch blinds. Same lake set up with competition from
snow geese and sand hill cranes.

Late January update. A few more Canadians added with T-shot steel-copper plated. This time: a 1920s LC Smith Long Range 3 in,
but used bismuth rather than push steel through the old Smith. Save those for M-12 Heavy Duck gun.

Several thousand honkers and maybe 50 swans around here. Probably about a month early, but we're light on ground/snow cover. No pintails yet.

We tried the Conservation hunt in Arkansas last week, to no avail. We hunted hard and had very few geese work the decoys. We were told that there are few juvenile birds this year, which are the geese that are easier to decoy. The Specks worked a bit better, but they are not included in the Conservation season.

Min:
In-laws used to live in the Dalles, down from Mt. Hood. Lots of geese, ducks and steelhead-&salmon. Unfortunately, Oregon has been changing
in the last 5 years or so. And the closer to Portland, the more the state turns blue.
