Bought a new 10/22 takedown. Positively will not fed anything. Rem, Win HP, CCI, PMC. Tips hit the feed ramp bottom and shaves a big hunk or lead off, bends the lead up. Had a couple that bent so far that some powder leaked out !!

Traded in my old one that had thousands of rounds through it w/o a bobble.

Anyone aware of any problems with these rifles?

Will give Ruger a call tomorrow.

I've yet to have mine bubble. Assuming it ain't a barrel nut problem or magazine, I'd call Ruger.

That's the plan. My old one ate thousands of rounds.

Did notice the magazine is very hard to load. Really hard spring.

Called Ruger....

Tried to talk them into a magazine. They asked for serial #. As soon as I gave her the number she said we need the firearm returned. Sending a RMA and they will have the rifle 30-45 business days.

Oh well I am sure it will be right when it comes back.

Lefty I would try a different magazine before tying up my rifle for a month and a half.

+1.

Mag is the biggest cause of semi auto issues. esp. 22LR.

To all,

I messed around with the 10/22 all afternoon. Took it apart and cleaned everything. Gave the chamber a good scrubbing with a brush and Hoppes. A friend brought over 2 magazines from his rifle. bought a pack of CCI mini mages. (the ones with Troy of swamp fame on the cover)

First mag of my friends & CCI, Gobbled them up, ditto for the second! My original mag 9 & a failure to eject on the 10th.

Re adjusted the take down locking ring and got it 1 click tighter, 3 more mags with the CCI and no failures.

Sighted in a 50 yds with 5 shot groups 3/4-1" Which was ok given cold and windy conditions.

Win Super X HP jammed in every magazine usually FTF

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Was it your impression that there was some issue they knew about in the serial number range your rifle falls in? Seems odd that they's want the whole rifle back for just a magazine swap. A little straight talk from them would've been in order I think.

The person on the phone is not trained to deal with the million different personalities that own Ruger firearms.

Going to shoot it more before I even think of sending it back.

The woman with the serial # thing gave me the impression there may be a problem.

Wait and see.

I have one that didn't feed reliably, #`0011-199xx, and sent it back to Ruger last month. They had it for 3 weeks and sent it back with a new magazine, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Other than replacing the magazine, but I can't tell what else they might have done to it. I tried it with three different magazines that worked fine in a couple of different solid-frame 10/22s before I sent it back to Ruger. Size wise it is a handy little rifle, but if I can't depend on it feeding reliably, it will have to find a new owner.

Got a new td when they first came out.10rd factory mag would not drop out unless i pried it out with screwdriver.sent it back and got it back with same problem I replaced a bolt from another 10/22 i have and the problem was fixed.Told ruger to just send me a bolt and they wanted the rifle sent back,I sent it back again and they must have changed the bolt because it worked fine. The quality has gone to dogshit on ruger factory 10/22 rifles, and now i just buy Kidd 10/22 parts and rifles.I been shooting the 10/22 rifle since the early 1970 and back then for $80.00 you got a standard rifle without any problems.

I just picked up my first take down the other day, seems to be 50/50 success rate with these things so I'm hoping for the best. LGS had a used one camo/blue that still had the box/case/and all the tag/manual with it. I figured for 250 it was worth a gamble, it looks like it hasn't been shot.

I just picked up a new stainless takedown 10/22 and shot it yesterday. All went very well with the cheap bulk ammo. Ruger's customer service has been so good that I never worry about potential problems (I have had very few) because I'm sure any will be taken care of efficiently.
