Reason: you don't even have to actually hit the antelope. Just get it close to its nose and it'll suck the air right out of it with 0 meat ruined.

I'm at a loss then, I have and shoot a 256 Newton 257 Roberts, 257 W., 264WM, 26 Nos., and a 6.5 X 300 W. I will admit though that my 257 W is what I use when antelope hunting.

Well it’s a good one. I would say the 6-06 with 26-inch barrel and 80-105gr bullets would be quite ideal for pronghorn out past 500 yds. Just as flat shooting with less recoil and muzzle blast.

The German 'Paris gun'. It had a range of about 81 miles. Death from the stratosphere.

Beat it in terms of what - drop, drift, or retained energy and velocity?

Using Weatherby ammo data for 500 yards:
2514fps = 80g TTSX
1419fps = 115g Ballistic Tip
-17.4" = 80g TTSX

Weatherby sells their Mark V and Vanguard .257 rifles with 26" barrels. Their ballistic data corresponds well with my calculations for the 80g TTSX at 4000 feet in altitude.

If we assume the 80g TTSX (B.C. .316 per Weatherby) is adequate for antelope at 500 yards with 2514fps, 1123fpe and a drop of 17.4", let's do some calculations.

The first is that drift will be about 16.8" in a 10mph wind.

My 24" 6.5-06AI pushes 140g bullets to 3075fps with a 24" barrel. Assuming a 26" barrel and a 143g ELD-X (B.C. .625) at 3100fps, 4000 feet altitude, same 300 yard zero: This is a non-max, accuracy load.
22.3" = drop
10.3" = drift
2452fps = velocity
1909fpe = energy

I'd say that beats the .257 WBY pretty handily. I'd much rather deal with an additional 5" of drop than 3-1/2" drift.

If the 6.5-06AI had a 26" barrel with max loads the advantage would be even greater.

IME, very low S.D. bullets, like the 80 gr Barnes at hypervelocity, sometimes have bizarre terminal performance on WT type game.

It may not work out like you would think.

Beware.
