What's your opinion of an AWD Toyota RAV4. I'll be using it for muddy and possibly rocky wet roads on deer leases. I realize that it is limited on ground clearance. I won't be using to go mudding or any real 4WD off road stuff, just the deer lease roads in inclement weather. I have all terrain tires. capt david

Stay away from 2001, 2002, 2003 models. They have an ecm issue that ruins your transmission and costs a grand even if you catch it before it does the damage.

A Rav 4 is okay on pavement and can handle a fair bit of snow.. If the mud on your deer lease is real mud you will get stuck. Your tires won't do you any good in mud either.

Watched a you tube video last night about doing maintenance on a RAV 4...
it was in Russian and had subtitles.... but what was cool, which had me watch it..
it was a RAV 4, with a 4 cylinder Turbo Diesel in it...
we can once again, thank the EPA for something like that not being available here....

You can get a hybrid Rav4 if you buy a new one.
