I'm a heavy bullet fan. I use 250 grain Partitions in my 338's. They shoot so well, I have not tried much else. I have a 7 point bull elk's antlers in my gun room. That bull was shot lengthwise with those 250 grain Partitions, no second shot was needed. I've read where other bullets work as well. But I do not know that from experience.

The Speer bullets in other calibers always hold together well for me. If I had access to 275 grain Speer bullets, I'm confident that they would do well for anything on this half the world. I'd bet they would work well on Cape Buffalo, but I wouldn't give odds.

I'd like to see how those 275's perform in a stack of tightly bound dry newspaper.

I prefer classic.

Bugger, nice to know about the 338 cal 250gr partitions, just worked up loads for two 338 wm's with those, have always mostly shot 250gr SAF's, also have a couple boxes of 275gr SAF's, those at 2600+ should be hell on moose and one of Phil's Big Bears. smile

Why would anyone want a 275 or 300 grain in the 338 Win? We have lighter premium bullets that will shoot with more velocity and flatte4 trajectory that give all the pentration that on3 could possibly want.

Hello jwp475,
So are you saying that a 220 swift, 17 Rem. 204 Ruger. Would all make great bear guns because higher velocity equals more penetration? Oh Boy

I don't know but I got a chance to buy some 275 gr Semi spitzer Speers for $10 /box " Hell ,I just wanna go there " No disrespect intended jwp, just sometimes in life you just need to experience things from a different era so you can really understand what they experienced. MB

I don't know about 275 grain bullets or much about elk but I can tell you in the 338 WM the 250 partition is tough on Moose. It's my favorite load.

I've used the 250 Partition on several mouse and it did work well. I never got an exit with one even on broad side shot. A 225 or 210 TSX will shoot flatter and exit. Just my experience.

Not worried so much about exits, as long as we have a dead animal.
Spent bullets don't need to weigh almost the same as new bullets to be a good bullet.

Just some loose change. You know, my two cents.

Have a good day.
