Being a young naive guy about 30 years ago, I let a 257 Roberts slip through my hands. But I still have a 30-06 lighting.

I have a number of 30 cal lever guns, love my Sav 99's and a .307 win 94, But my BLR has them beat as far as performance, and is as close as one can get to a bolt gun in a lever action. It shoots way more accurate than I expected it would, and makes an excellent scoped saddle gun, with a compact scope. I shoot 165 grain Nosler AB bullets at about 2800. And would feel fine using for about any hunt in the lower 48. Mine has one mule deer buck, a whitetail doe, and two cow elk to it. Things I don't like, the creepy trigger, and the glossy finish.

Sorry, I don't have both but I have a 2011 Lightweight Stainless Pistol Grip model in 308 Win. It's my primary hunting rifle. I really like it. I have no meaningful experience to compare it to anything else.

I have owned both long and short actions. 7mag and 257 Roberts. I still have the 257. My pard owned a 270 and a 284. He still has the 284. Neither of us liked the long actions. He slimmed the forend on the 270 and I tried it as I thought the shorter barrel might it seem less clunky. Not for me. We both owned short first. Bolt actions don’t seem that different from long to short except for Sako. I started with super short 17 rem then went to a 7 mag. It felt unwieldy.

Love the short actions, never had the hankering for a long action, but then again, one hasn't popped up at a price I couldn't resist. Got a 308 cheap, sold that when I got a real good deal on a 7mm08 which made that one cheap, then 257 Roberts, 325 WSM and 358. Old traditional lever that won the west nope, but they look good, feel good and shoot good, you can't go wrong with one.

I bought a blr lightning new in 1996 brought it home and cut 3/4 of an inch off the butt and took it to a smith and had the 22in barrel cut to 19in put an 11.5 degree inverted crown on it and havent looked back since. it has proven its self time and time again. I also have other calibers in the same gun but havent done anything to them but shootem! A 223, 243, 308, and they all shoot as well as I am capable of shooting. the 30-06 is my go to gun out of the many different guns I have to choose from. I am a Fan of the blr!!!

I know it's been a while, but pictures of your BLR would be awesome!

I have a short action and long action and work identically. Both are Miroku made rifles, both are takedowns
