FINALLY ... I found an A-Square 577 Tyrannosaur - "The Mighty 577 T-REX"

Hello All,

Well, after searching for several years, I finally found one, and I bought it. But, not without the help of a fellow forum member who saw my want-ad, and posted a link to the seller. I'm sure many of you had seen my want ad.

https://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbt...1667/wtb-a-square-577-t-rex#Post13101667

I was somewhat apprehensive about this purchase because of the seller's description. He stated that it had a 20" barrel, weighed 12 pounds 13 ounces, and had a 3-shot capacity. I knew the History of the 577 T-REX rifle and knew that the information in the ad didn't match a true A-Square T-REX. And, based on the "all-to-reasonable" selling price, ( these usually sell for over 5K ) I was afraid this might have been some kind of a knock-off using an original A-Square action & stock. - However, it wasn't a knock-off. - It was a real 577 "T-REX". The infamous "Dinosaur Killer".

The Barrel length was 24", the weight was a touch over 14 pounds, ( 14-3/4 pounds loaded ) and the capacity was 4 rounds. ( 1-up and 3-down )

And, as per A-Square Factory specs, it has "3" Mercury Recoil Reducers built into the stock. Two in the Butt, and one in the Forearm.

This rifle also has what is called the "Appearance Package". This consisted of an upgrade to "Fancy Wood", and an "Ebony Forend Tip."

I love watching this video from a few years back. Its gone Viral with over 3,100,000 views. I'm not in it, ... yet.

The gun looked good in the seller's ad, but only when I got it in hand, did I see the real beauty of the stock.

If it doesn't snow, I'll shoot it tomorrow.

As always, your comments are welcome. .........

I read that buckstix was planning to shoot it..... I didn't see results posted so I scrolled back up to check the time of his post.... It's only been an hour so I guess he is likely still OK grin

I've turned into an old guy with a gimpy back and shoulder..... but with a proper sized cast bullet mold and some reduced load data I could still picture having fun with it... curious what the OP's plans for it are?

The one rifle I really enjoy....watching someone else shoot.
Should be a hoot, but consider buying retina insurance.

Hello memtb,

Thanks for the reply.

If you ever come to Wisconsin, I'll have some ammo ready for you.

Thanks for the offer! It would be fun to shoot....at least once. It may be a while......don’t get to Wisconsin often. To shoot the T-Rex, may be worth the “price of admission”! grin After shooting that, my rifle would feel like a varmint rifle! memtb

Not sure if I should offer congratulations or condolences, maybe both. Hope you have a standing bench rest and maybe an assistant to lean against you when you touch that thing off. I wish I could find the article again about the guy who would regulate the big doubles for Holland & Holland. He was still shooting the 577's and 600's at 80 years old. I would have a tough time telling when it was on at all as I would be done by three shots if that many.
