Pretty cool.... But a bit more than I need for what I do. Could it be loaded down a little? To where it's still a viable stopping rifle? But just not as much so.

If not now, he will have after he shoots it. I love that action, but have never really felt the need to have an A square cartridge housed in one..

At one time there were some videos on the ACCURATERELOADING.COM site of some of Saeed’s guests shooting his 577 T-Rex. (they may still be there somewhere, but I cannot find them) They showed shooters getting spun around almost 180 degrees, getting flung back against the rear wall of the shooting station, and having the rifle escape their grasp and crash to the floor.

I suppose shooting that beast of a thing would be less painful than getting hit by a truck, but probably by not very much!

I would have a tough time telling when it was on at all as I would be done by three shots if that many.

Hello Tejano,

Thanks for the reply.

I hope I'm still shooting "something" at 80 years old. I haven't been able to get out and shoot this one yet. Had a gun show the next day and now the weather's been below zero the last couple of days, and I'm afraid I might snap like an icicle.

I havent shot a 577, but I did shoot an ASquare rifle in 500 ASquare that my dad owned. Recoil was strong to be sure, but honestly I was expecting worse. The stock design and the weight of the action soak up some of the punishment.

Hello 22250rem

Thanks for the reply.

I have a "fun" load of 1500 fps with a 750g bullet. It only has about 50 ft/lbs recoil energy, but still has about 3800 ft/lbs muzzle energy. Which is plenty enough for downing paper targets.
The full load, which is shown in the internet videos, is 2450 fps with a 750g bullet and yields over 10,000 ft/lbs muzzle energy. But that load has about 150 ft/lbs or recoil energy, 3 times my fun load.

Hello Beaver10,

Thanks for the reply.

I'm still waiting for the weather to warm up here ion Wisconsin. Most of the week will be much below zero, but warms up to 35 to 40 degrees by the weekend. I can hardly wait to shoot it.

Hello elkhunternm

Thanks for the reply.

No. I have 3 others: an A-Square in 338-A-Square Mag, and an A-Square Deluxe in 416 Hoffman, and an A-Square in 416 Rigby.

Hello elkhunternm

I'm hoping to contact Art Alphin to try to find out when and where my rifle was made. I've been told only a dozen were made in this caliber.

Hello elkhunternm,

As a follow-up:

I had an opportunity to speak with Art Alphin yesterday, he told me all the Factory records were lost by one of the subsequent owners of the A-Square Company. He also said that all the actions were re-heat-treated and magnaflux tested before use.. I found an "MC5" stamped on the bottom of my rifle's receiver which Art said would have been the "re-heat-treat" number. He didn't recall exactly how many rifles were built in 577 T-Rex caliber, but indicated it was a relatively low number. He also told me the serial numbers on all the rifles were the original numbers of the rifle's manufacturer, whether preserved or re-stamped.
