Ok I'm somewhat new to older lever actions and I picked up a damn near mint Marlin 1894 .44 Mag today. Serial # 22132335, no letters in the SN...I've looked at that date code thing and it's confusing to me.... Does anyone know date of manufacture?

Also...When you load a round in it and it goes behind the load gate will the load gate prongs stick out a little past the receiver with a round in behind it... I noticed if you push ammo all the way in and it goes behind the load gate you can't load anymore.... Is this normal or ???

I might have posted this in the wrong place, don't know?

Any info would be appreciated.... Thanks

gate screw may be loose ?

use the magic formula on some Marlins........100 - 22 = 1978 mfg date

other wise look at this chart.....

Let me try to clarify... When you load the rounds into the tube magazine the rounds will not stay up in the tube.... No matter how far I push them up in there with my pinky as soon as the gate shuts the round shoots back behind the load gate and you cannot load another round...What holds the rounds in the tube??? The prongs on the load gate? Do I have a bad load gate? Anyone? Thanks

I appreciate the info tikkanut... I took it t to a gunsmith today... He said he has seen this same thing on a couple other 1894 rifles... He said he would tear it down and get back with me tomorrow.....If he doesn't take care of it , I'll probably be more than fed up with it by then and if you pay the shipping I'll send it to ya.... Shipping to Utah is probably around $650 lol....

when you get it home.......look at the ejector........early '94's used a quirky style ejector

or simply look at left side of receiver........no ejector type hole.....?

later models have never styled ejector...look at part #13

The carrier is out of time. In other words you need to bend it a little. Remove the carrier. Lay it on the jaws of
a vise, upside down, with a gap in the middle. Now...hit it in the middle with a hammer to slightly bend it, so
the front of it will be lower when action is closed. I got this from Marlin many years ago, only they use a jig
to check it after re-forming.
