Picked up my CZ 457 in .17HMR from Red's Trading Post today - ran home and slapped a Bushnell Banner 4-12AO scope (what I had laying around with AO) cleaned the factory oil off, ran a swab down the bore and headed to the desert for some quick sight in and testing. Cold, about 40degrees wind about 5-7 mph. Shot 30 rounds without a hitch. Feeds nice, shoots nice and accuracy is well - what I have come to expect from CZ rimfires. The stock is not as nice as the 455 I had before it but the trigger is very good right out of the box. I'd guess it at around 3.5-4# with a nice crisp letoff. Safety is where it should be and works in the direction most of us think it should. I do like the new checkering pattern but as stated before the stock is not as pretty. Anyway, here's a couple pics. and with a little luck I may have a pic or two with a jackrabbit tomorrow.
Admittedly that was the best 5 shot group but most had 4 in a little hole and one just off a bit to open things up. Even with the breeze groups were <1/2" pretty easy. Even shooting off the tailgate.

I thought it was going to be strange also (my 455 had a 20" barrel) but after shooting it, I really don't have any issue with it. The balance is nice and it holds well offhand. The overall length is just over 42" so it's not like a long action with a 24" barrel. I guess you can use any 455 barrel with it also. Could probably buy a 20" barrel for what a smith would charge to cut it.

Good looking rifle. Looking forward to handling one soon. Looks like the scope on yours is mounted lower than 452/455 would allow. I would welcome that change.
Group in the picture was at 50 yards, 5-7mph wind is enough to make a mess out of groups at 100yds with that little bullet. I did shoot a couple 100 yard groups on Saturday all well under 1" but with an inconsistent wind I would get 3 or 4 in 3/8-1/2" and one would blow out to make the group 3/4-1". I think it is capable of consistent <3/4" groups @ 100 yards on a nice day. Easily Minute of Rock Chuck!
Did get out and shoot a couple dozen jack rabbits over the weekend. Forgot my monopod so all shooting was offhand. Was pretty deadly out to 75-80 yards but over that they had a ~50/50 chance. lol. Bunny in this pic was the first shot taken at a live critter. ~ 50 yard shot, went 3 for 4 then got cocky and missed one 3 times at about 125 yards before I got him. Fun stuff.

Same gun.No disappointment here.Like everything about it.
Wood on your's look a little lighter colored than mine. Mine is very dark and not as nice as my 455 was. I think it is beech with a dark walnut stain. I do like the checkering on the new ones.
FWIW: The stock trigger setting was at 2-3/4#. When was the last time you got a factory trigger that was under 3#? I am impressed with this new offering from CZ.

From what I can gather the trigger is a big improvement. For a hunting gun a 2 pound trigger works best for me. Approximately, ball park. The CZ spec is 2.2 at the min setting. That is a good place to be at and for those who need a little lighter the trigger spring can be replaced.
I give CZ credit, the guns do look good. And nice hunting photo!
My 455 has some creep but seems light enough. I haven't shot it but 30 times, and not tried any match ammo. CCI stuff in it did same as in my 1022 w match bbl.
Pic before scoping, dunno what the stock is............thought beech. Has decent striping/grain to it. Buddy got one same time and his has nothing..........plane jane.

I traded for a .22LR CZ 2500, which has a 29" barrel. This one was painted red, I later painted it brown. IMO, the paint looks better than the natural wood, which I think was beech.
This one has a Timney trigger and is accurate. The extra long barrel is pretty quiet...

CZ 's website claims the 457 Americans are stocked in Turkish Walnut.
Turkish wood can show some extremely fine grain and it sometimes has a greenish cast which may make it look like stained beech, birch etc (or vice versa). Also, CZ uses a lot of blonde, unfigured Turkish which basically is the same starting point in terms of color as if they used Beech. Which is why a lot of CZ owners find it hard to tell them apart.
The only tine is when it gets easier is when they uzed runs of American Black walnut for their stocks which they did do from tine to time, both on the m452 and m527 rifles. I believe most of the last runs of CZ m452 rifles had American black Walnut on them .
The wood on your gun looks like a lot of standard grade Turkish walnut I have seen.

Yes, beech. The 2018 catalog may still be found online. Or take my word,
Centershot: Good for you! Great looking Rifle and I like that checkering pattern. I have dozens of friends who own CZ rimfire Rifles and nary a one of them is "inaccurate"! This includes CZ Rifles in 17 Mach2, 17 HMR, 22 L.R. and 22 Magnum - all are great shooting Rifles. Sadly I have forbidden myself to ever having one of my own as I do not trust myself owning one with their bass-ackwards safeties. I have shot several of my friends CZ's afield but I only single load them and don't close the bolt til I am about to take the shot. Great looking Rifle and a great shooter it appears to be. Enjoy and thanks for sharing! Hold into the wind VarmintGuy
