In my area all of the Academy stores are having a closeout sale. There are good deals to be had on all sorts of outdoors related stuff. There's no consistency from store to store, so the deals I got may not work at your store, but it may be worth a try. The best deal I found was at the Slidell LA store. Winchester 55 grain softpoint silver box ammo. $4.88/box. I cleaned em out. Marlin bolt action 7 round 22 mags $4.88. One store had Hornady 44 cal 265g FTX 50 quantity bullets for $9.88 per box. No other store had them for the sale price. Several stores have Mossberg 5.56 Patrol rifles for $319. Good deals in the flashlight section too. I got some Wolverine camo wellington boots, normally $119 for $59.
Here's a note about how to shop Academy. If you see something with a clearance label, scan it. The computer often takes subsequent markdowns, but the employees haven't gotten around to putting the new shelf label on it yet. If you see a good shelf label in one store, but the item is sold out, they may have it in another store. One store had one All Star fishing rod regular price $149 marked down to $34. I didn't need that style. I went to another store. They still had the $149 price on many different styles of the same rod, but they scanned $34.
This is what furloughed federal employees are good for.

They say everything happens for a reason. For me that reason is usually because I've made some bad decisions that I need to pay for.

I worked at Academy for about a year after I retired and found some great deals. When they decide to get rid of old inventory they really mark it down. I bought two sets of Polecat shooting sticks for $9.88 each. They were marked down from $34.99. After I had left there due to knee problems I walked in one day and guy I had worked with told me to come over to the gun bar and check out the markdown. They had a TC Impact in full camo and weathershield for $140 out the door. I bought it and sold it to a friend at my cost since I knew she was looking for a new muzzleloader. A couple of months ago they started marking down some of their reloading components. I got two 50 round boxes of .243 Win brass for $16.99 each.

I bought 13 boxes of Federal Fusion 35 Whelen last year for $3.88 a box or something like that, I know it was under $5 per.

I also scored some kids snorkel and mask sets for my grandkids for $1.98 and some folding lounge chairs for $1.98. I am about to go to the last Academy within 20 minutes of me and get the 8 boxes of Winchester 55g SP. That will bring me up to a total of 500 rounds for $125. I don't think I can reload it for that price.
Once I get my back pay, I'll be sure to thank all of you for paying me so well to shop closeout bargains.
