25 Creedmoor... btdt . bought a used but unfired XL-7 Marlin in 25-06, it has a 22" barrel not ideal for wringing the most velocity out of the 25-06. So I went retro and downloaded it to between 257 bob- 257 bob AI, big window there but someone had to do it. I call it the 25 Moor bob. It was amazing did everything a 257 bob can do and as good when needed to be better than a 257 AI. Not only that but it will double as a 25-06 when called on. It was really enlightening to find out I'm way ahead of all you cutting edge dudes and I did it all for only $200.00 and sales tax. Yeah and I put a Vari-X 11c 3x9 on it with Weaver rings just to use the factory picatiny rail it came with. MB

Fits better in a short action allowing long bullets to be seated out further.

Thanks, but I'm well set with a bunch of Hornady 308 Win. Match from a single lot number that has been very good.

Hmmmmmmmmm.

25 Cal. 131gr "Ace" bullet. G7 BC .330. They have a new heavier higher BC 25 Cal bullet on the way.

I'm thinking .257 Creedmoor Improved with .165 freebore. Word has it that should cover bullets in a 7 twist.

Just for size comparison.

162gr 7mm Hornady ELD-X bullet (Left)

Yum!!!!

Your picture shows what I find attractive about .25 vs .26. It's that much lighter of a bullet with that much less recoil. Looks about like comparing a .30 to a .26.

Build it and they will come, the Field of Dreams marketing philosophy, see Remington's O/U shotguns that aren't 32s or 3200s and Ruger S/S Gold Label shotguns.

To quote from this article: https://www.ballisticstudies.com/Knowledgebase/.25-08+.25+Souper.html

"The .25-08 enjoyed a brief period of popularity that lasted through to the late 60's. Since then, the .25-08 has seen very limited use. This cartridge has a very small, but ardent fan base. "

I think marketers/manufacturers sometimes get confused by the ardency of a small fan base.

Someone mentioned a 25 Grendel, I has serious thoughts about that. I shoot a 25-204 it hit 2800+ fps with 100gr NPT"s and works well on deer. The 25 Grendel would fit a small action like a Mini-Howa or Mini-Mauser, what a sweet little rifle you could build around that.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

I can't see any advantage to a .257" bore cartridge built on the Creedmoor format, as there aren't any long, VLD, .257" bullets that could take advantage of the shorter Creedmoor case in a short action.

The better short action .257" bore cartridge is, in my mind, the proven performer 25 Souper.

I wouldn’t mind seeing the .25 Creedmoor if for no other reason than the new .257 VLD type bullets that would surely accompany it.

130 grain bullet in a properly twisted 25-06 sounds very interesting and overdue.

Reminds me of a time when a buddy (shade-tree gunsmith, if you will) and I were thinking on how to use a quantity of 8mm barrels to build double rifles.
How should they be chambered - wanted rimmed, relatively low pressure, etc.
~ 2 weeks later, I called him early one morning, and said "Do you know what we just spent the last 2 weeks doing?" After his reply, I told him "We just spent 2 weeks designing the 32 SPL."

smile smile smile - the silence over that phone was deafening!

“25 Creedmoor” reminds me of what the Sgt Major used to say when I sunk a long putt after being two over par to get to the green.

I thought what the heck and order a reamer from JGS a bit back. I just had them do a straight .257 neck down of the 6.5 PRC. Minimum no turn neck and .165 free bore for the “ACE” 131gr. My reamer should be showing up around the 5th of Feb. I have a couple 25 cal 7 twist barrels. So I’ll give it a try.

I've been using a 250AI for 14 years now. Mostly because 1) Mickey built one for himself and sold it at a silly good price 2) It's a 257 Roberts without the mag constraints 3) I've always been a 25 caliber slut.

Unless the 25 Creedmoor becomes commercial, I'll not own one, not sure I would even if it were.

Had the 6.5 Creedmoor been around in factory form 14 years ago, that's likely the way it would have gone. That said, I love the 250AI and it gave me a reason to visit Mickey. Win/win

I'm all for the 25 Creedmoor if it would make Lee produce a collet neck die that could be used for the parent .250 Savage and save me 70 bucks plus $12.95 shipping to get one custom made.

I had a collet die for a .250 AI made from a .257 Roberts die but sold that when I sold the rifle. Which reinforces the 9th Commandment of the Rifle Looney's creed: "Sell the rifle if you must but never sell the dies."

I own a super clean old school Ruger M77, red pad, tang safety in .257 Roberts that I purchased 20 years ago. I would leave it in the safe and not look back. If I were to chamber up a rifle in 25 Creedmoor. Especially with modern bullets designs and heavy 25 cal bullets along with improved available powders as of the offerings of 20 some years ago.

That’s just me. I’ve already shot the 25 Souper, .257 DGR and the .257 Arnold magnum a bunch. So I skipped the 25 Creedmoor and thought I would try the .257 PRC. Happy medium I guess.
