I got out this afternoon to check zero on a scope after re-mounting it. The barrel is a 1/9 HBar from DPMS. I put it together with the YHM float tube a couple years ago, mainly for prairie dog shooting. I have only fired bullets in the 40/50/53gr class, all VMax. Today I had a few different rounds on hand and gave them a try. The 53 VMax, 75gr Hornady BTHP, and 77gr Nosler BTHP all grouped around 1/2" at 50 yards. The M855 was a little looser. Anyway, just thought I'd share. It was about 25F, elevation 4300 ft. Had an audience a few hundred yards out,

Very nice.
What were you using for fuel behind those 75/77's?

I was using Ramshot Xterminator. 23.5gr under the 77gr, 24.5gr under the 75gr
Maybe not the optimum powder, but I use it with the 53gr mostly. Seems to do ok with the 75/77, but I didn't chrono it today. I've ran some of the XTerm fueled 75s through the 1/7 twist 14.7" carbine, they were hitting about 1.25" at 100 yards.

How far do you plan on shooting? You should test it at that range. Under stabilized bullets can shoot well at close range, but fall apart at longer. They can also be very sensitive to wind.

I'll be testing them out further, 600-800 yards.
I was running out of daylight yesterday, so I was did a quick 50/200 zero.
I've used the Berger online stability tool a lot. Nice they share that.

The JBM one is good too especially if you have plastic tipped bullets. http://jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmstab-5.1.cgi

Berger makes a 77gr OTM Tactical, that groups well out of my Ruger #1 with a 9" twist. Whitetail deer hate it, too

Lever' fueled Hornie 75 BTHP's,keeps things simplistic and snappy. You've got the atmosphere,to really take the advantage of same.

I haven't tried Lever', but I do like the Hdy 75gr BTHP.
The Hornady 53gr VMax, and 75gr BTHP are about all I load in 223.

All 223 Krunchentickers,eat Lever fueled 75 Hornie HPBT's,because I've shot everything else.(grin)
75 ELD M's in a pair of 224 Grendels,the 3rd will be expressly for 88 ELD's(faster twist rate). 105 Hornie HPBT's in my 243 Grendels.
Lever across the course..................

Some of us can read English and learn from others. Others must test everything and even then can only follow one narrow path. Like shooting with training wheels.
