I think you are referring to Marine Toads which are a non-native species introduced to Austalia from South and Central America. There are lots of species of poisonous frogs in the Neotropics although most are small.

There are "Cane Toads" there which the more adventurous people (usually young men) lick for their hallucinogenic properties. Technically this is poisoning yourself.

Apparantly we do have poisonous frogs:

Never heard of any of them before though, and don't know what they taste like

The Corroboree Frog is probably the best known of Australia's poisonous Frogs.

Bloody cane toads are a menace here, I was thinking about sitting on the veranda one hot evening with a .22 loaded with hollow points and a beer, and whacking them as they come into the light. May have to dispense with the beer though lest I become a Redneck.

I don't think I would ever have a reason to lick a toad or kiss a frog..

If you keep the cane toads out of your mouth you will be fine.

It is fun poping them at night

They have always been a problem. The uninformed who never really get out in the bush are only starting to realise the problem though. I’ve been shooting them for nearly 40yrs.

Then again, the city and town folks have no idea of the destruction wrought by foxes, feral pigs and feral dogs.

Someone asked me what's the best cartridge for feral cats. I told them, whatever you have in your hand at the time.

In Virginia growing up, when there was a large thunderstorm early evening after it got dark....

when the rain stopped, there were millions of toads out all over the place... and I do mean millions..

we always use to grab a flashlight with fresh batteries and either a baseball bat or a golf club, and go out and practice our
hitting or golf swing....

I had a paper route delivering 350 to 400 papers from the Washington Post in the morning...

in summers after heavy rains early in the morning say 4 or 5 AM...

cars driving up the main parkway, heading to work early.. there were so many toads out, it sounded like they were driving over eggs shells.....

We also use to go to a few swamp ponds, that were usually full of bullfrogs the size of your hand...

with our 22s we'd sink em....but the best fun was the kid who would bring a single shot Savage 410....

We used to play golf with the cane toads too when I was young. These days I have settled down and prefer to run them over.
