good luck there is only a couple of these at any given time on gunbroker and they usually sell for quite a bit. my advice either pay 800+ for a used JM model, OR find a gunstore that has several 1894's in stock and ask to look over 3 or 4 different guns they have and pick the best one. mine is awesome it was built in august last year. close to 300 rounds, now would buy again all day long.

have two 357 Marlins......'79 carbine & an '08 20" Cowboy........

I'm like most......they'll stay in the family...have G/kids that will use em

when you find one for sale....prob will be top buck...you're in NY ?

start searching pawnshops...some times they don't know what they have...

Henry may be a 2nd choice.......? 16" carbine 357 ? $700

Good looking rifle tikka nut ,so are the JM guns that much better ?i'd heard some horror stories about the remlins but wasn't sure if it was real or hype ? I handled a Henry waaaay too heavy for a 357 ,I was hoping that wouldn't be the case. what about other brands do any really measure up to the Marlins ?

the 357 Marlin pre safety (especially) is a sought after carbine........

Rossi ? more common........I've had a few........Marlins are easier to take down & clean

Win 92 ? big bucks too......even the 40 YO Marlin may need some tweaking.......

Lots of RemLins out there for sale......new & used........I've never seen or handled one....

never had a reason to.......

comparing and 1894C to a model 92 in 357, how handy is the 92? what about cycling the action, which one is smoother?

I suppose I'm an outlier ... haven't drank the cool aid yet. I've seen some very rough JM-marked Marlins. Rather than presenting the case as "JM vs Remlin", I look at it like this: older guns are pretty good, the guns produced just before transition and just after have a good probability of having problems, and the current guns are again pretty decent. What you don't want is a transition gun that's been sitting on someone's shelf looking for a sucker ... er, excuse me, a new home.

I, too, am looking for a Marlin .357 ... one of the new CSBL or CST models. As suggested above, I'm going to handle before I buy so I'm waiting for local stores to get them in stock.
