Hi,

I’m looking at putting a 2-7 on my 375HH, I’m wondering if the leupold vx1 and 2, maybe even the freedom models will hold up on a 375.

Thanks!!!

My VXII Held up to a 7-1/4 pound Ruger #1 with full house 45-70 rounds. Phil Shoemaker uses a 2-1/2x on his 458.

I have an old, 1986 vintage, Vari-X IIc 2-7x28 on my 375 H&H. Not many rounds fired, around 250, but not many folks in the lower 48 are volume 375 H&H shooters.

I had thought about using the same scopes on my .375 ruger. I am using a vx1 3-9x40 instead. Rings are more important from what I have found.

I like my old Redfield 2 3/4X fixed power on my .375 HH and a Leupold 4X on my 9.3X62.

I use a vx-1, 2-7x33 on my 9.3x62. It's held up just fine.

I've had my Vari X II 3-9X40 on my 9.3x62 for about 5-6 years now and it hasn't hiccuped yet. It's not like I shoot it every day or even every week, but still the 9.3 x 62 is a body slammer of sorts with heavy bullets. It's not a .375 but it's not a wimp gun for sure. I shoot 270 grain Speer Hot Cores in it and after about five or six rounds off a bench I'm ready to do something else, yet the Vari X II is still hanging in there.

If you can find one of these used, it’s supposed to be a great scope!

Leupold VX3. 1 3/4 - 6 Of course it’s pretty hard to beat a Leupold 2.5 - 8 ! memtb

I had a VX1 on mine for a short while, worked just fine.

The VX Freedom is the current replacement for the VX-2

I have an old Vari x II with friction adjustments on my 375 H&H. It's mounted using Leupold DD bases and Burris Signature rings. Has held up well for several African hunts.

This is what I have on my 375 and I like it a lot.

Had an old VX II 2-7x and it outlasted my barrel on a 7RM. The stock was also re-finished twice but the scope kept on ticking.

Put it on some other rifles then put it on my sons Colt light rifle. With the extra low rings the variable power ring post was in the way of the bolt at low settings so I took it off. Dumb azz move, I should have put in an allen screw to replace it. Finally the 1970s era scope quit being a variable. Leupold would not fix it in spite of me saying I was sentimental about the scope. For a slight up charge they sent me a VX III 2.5-8x. I just hope it lasts as long as it's predecessor, that was a pretty good return for a summer of lawn mowing.

So yes I think it is a good option.

Edit: Ooops just saw you are talking about a VX1 But the VX1 is comparable or better than my old VX II so still a good option.

And spring for the VX2 if you can get one. Nice glass for the price.

The freedom line is a slight upgrade from the VX-1 & 2s. I don't know how recoil proof they are but I heard that Leupold has a testing machine that produces the recoil level of a 375 and each scope line used to get tested with the equivalent of a thousand rounds on this machine. Might be worth a call to Leupold.

According to the experts over on the optics forum, no Leupold will hold zero on much of anything. They're unreliable junk from the bottom of the line to the top.

Yep.

IME VX-2 glass is pretty close to VX-3 glass. I don’t see that much difference.

My somewhat light 375 H&H wears a VX-II 2-7X. Zero issues.

My 2x7 Leupold had been on either a No.1 Ruger in 300 Win Mag or a No.1 in 375 H&H since 1976. I moved it to a CZ 458 and it would no longer maintain zero. Sent it back for repair and Leupold replaced it with a new scope. Have not mounted it but hope it holds up as well as the old model. (Optics are definitely clearer).

I have a Leupold VX2 2x7 on my CZ 550 .375 H&H. After about 350 rounds I’ve had no issues with the scope. However the aluminum Leupold rings I installed with the scope failed early on. Replaced them with Talleys and no more trouble with the rings.

1986 is not old for a Leupold. My go to scope is a M-8 4X bought new in 1972. I have a more recent 2-7X, but I trust that old 4 power more any other scope.
